"Know It" Spelling Words
This year as part of our School Improvement Plan Artondale is working to
improve the conventions students use in their writing. Writing conventions
include capitalization, usage (grammar), punctuation, and spelling.
To address our concerns with spelling each grade level has come up with a
list of 10 words that we call “Know It” words. These are words we consider to
be basic to quality writing. The words are posted in each classroom and
teachers will be focusing on mastery of the words. Children will be expected
from the beginning of the year to spell these words correctly in all of their
written work.
By helping your child correct the spelling of these words on written work at
home, you can help them develop into better writers. This program is new to
Artondale so you may find that your child does not yet have complete mastery
of the words from earlier grade levels. Enclosed is a list of our grade level
words for this school year and words your child may have missed in earlier
years.
