Message from the Principal

It’s that time of year when things seem to get a little crazy (in a good way) around here! You can tell by the calendar that we have a lot going on in May at Dower! This is the time of year when we have celebrations and field trips, and we start looking forward to next school year.

As we begin planning for classrooms next year, we need your help! We look forward to all of our Dower students returning, but we realize that summer is often a time for moving and change. If you know that your child will not be returning to Dower in the fall, would you please let us know?

I take seriously the task of assigning students to their classrooms for next year. It is an art and science to create balanced classrooms. I recognize that some parents would like a specific teacher for their student. All teacher requests for next year should be in writing to me by May 15th. I will do my best to honor requests; however I cannot guarantee a placement due to the need to balance the classrooms. Thank you for your understanding! Dower News

Safety at Dower Dower is concerned about student safety. We need ALL school visitors must sign-in in the office and get a visitor badge, even if you are just dropping your child off. You will notice that all teachers and staff are wearing badges also.

Dower Kindergarten Registration Kindergarten registration will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Kindergarten is open to all students who will be 5 years old by August 31, 2013. Students must live within the Dower attendance area. Please bring birth certificate, immunization record, and proof of address (example: utility bill, rental contract)when you come to register your child.

Second Annual Dower Art Show On Thursday, May 30th from 5:30-6:30 p.m. the Dower gym will become an art gallery. You will get to see student art in different mediums and see student writing displayed. Come join us to celebrate our students' creativity.

PTA NEWS There are exciting changes coming to our PTA for next school year! Election of new officers will be soon. Watch here for more news. PTA collects Box Tops for Education and Campbell's Labels. Send those in with your child to help us earn money to help our school. Thanks for your support.

Watch D.O.G.S.

What are Watch D.O.G.S? Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) is a program that encourages ment to be active participants in their child's school. While at school, Watch DOGS do everything from greeting kids off the bus, helping with breakfast, working with kids one-on-one, helping at recess, eating lunch with their child's class, and sending kids home with a smile! Any interested men are welcome to join Watch DOGS (dads, uncles, grandpas, etc.) Background checks are part of the program.

Congratulations Mrs. Jaeger!! Dower's Primary Success Teacher, Mrs. Jaeger, was honored on Friday, Jan. 11 by the Lakewood Rotary. She was chosen as educator of the month for her outstanding work with Dower students, within the community and at the state level in Special Education. We are very proud of Mrs. Jaeger. If you see her, congratulate her!

POPCORN DAYS Popcorn days will begin on November 2nd, and then be on the 1st and 3rd Fridays. Popcorn sells for 25 cents per bag.

Box Tops for Education

Collect them and send them in with your child and teacher's name! Every 10 boxtops is $1 earned for our school. Funds from this program directly benefit our student program activities.
Last school year, our school earned $1400 with our Box Tops. Let's see if we can beat that this year! This is a great way for grandparents and other relatives to help our school.
