November 23rd-25th
Dear Families of Room 2,
This week, we have two and a half days of learning. Grandparent/Special Person Day is on Wednesday, November 25th from 8:30-9:00. We look forward to seeing our special guests!
Mathematics
We are continuing our second math unit called Surveys and Line Plots. The class will gather, organize, and interpret data. We will also make line plots and bar graphs of data and conduct our own investigations to gather data.
Language Arts
This week, students will continue making choices about what they do during Daily 5. Students have been working on “Read to Self”, “Read to Someone”, “Work on Writing”, “Listening to Reading”, and “Word Work”.
This week, we will working on recognizing facts and opinions as we read. Students will learn that facts are something that can be backed by evidence. Opinions are beliefs or views.
Continue to have your child retell his/her nightly reading with you at home. This is a great comprehension strategy! After reading a fiction "good fit" book, your child will be practicing retelling the story using the format of: characters, setting, the problem, three important events in sequence, and the solution.
We are always looking for "Good Fit" books. These are books that students should read most of the time when they are reading independently. A "Good Fit" book is one where your child is interested in the topic, understands the text and knows 98-99% of the words. Research indicates, the more successful children are with reading independently, the more they will improve in their reading ability.
Science
We are finishing our learning about the human body. So far, we have learned more about our bones, muscles, and our circulatory system. We are working on skits that will bring together the information that we learned.
German Class
On Mondays, we will have high school students visit our classroom to teach us German for a half an hour at the end of the day. This group of students will be with us for about the next four weeks. At that point, we will learn a different language.
Reminder:
You can send a peanut-free healthy snack for your child to eat after recess. Also, if your child walks or gets a ride to school and they eat breakfast here, please make sure they arrive by 8:00.
Thursday Folders & Reflection
Please make sure to sign your child’s Thursday folder and Thursday Reflection on Thursday night. This is my assurance that you have received the information. Thursday Folders and Reflections should be returned on Friday, Thank you!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Sincerely,
Colleen DeLorenzo
