November 30th-December 4th
Dear Families of Room 2,
Thank you to all who attended Grandparent/Special Person Day! We had a wonderful time! Thank you for providing refreshments, as well!
Next week, we will be making our "Kids Who Care" cancer patient kits. We will set the gym up for this box making activity on Wednesday afternoon (Dec. 9th). I do need a couple of parents to help with this. If you are able to come from 12:00-3:00, please let me know! Thank you!
Mathematics
We are continuing our second math unit called Surveys and Line Plots. The class will organize data in bar graphs. We will also work with reading double bar graphs.
Language Arts
This week, students will continue making choices about what they do during Daily 5. Students have been working on “Read to Self”, “Read to Someone”, “Work on Writing”, “Listening to Reading”, and “Word Work”.
This week, we will continue recognizing facts and opinions as we read. Students will think of facts as statements that can be backed by evidence. They will learn that opinions are beliefs or views held by people.
Along with facts and opinions in text, we will work on identifying the main idea of text and the details that support the main idea.
Continue to have your child retell his/her nightly reading with you at home. This is a great comprehension strategy! After reading a fiction "good fit" book, your child will be practicing retelling the story using the format of: characters, setting, the problem, three important events in sequence, and the solution.
We are always looking for "Good Fit" books. These are books that students should read most of the time when they are reading independently. A "Good Fit" book is one where your child is interested in the topic, understands the text and knows 98-99% of the words. Research indicates, the more successful children are with reading independently, the more they will improve in their reading ability.
Science
We are studying flight. The class is learning about how humans have developed flying machines and other air transportation with the knowledge they have gained by studying animals. We are making a hot air balloon with plans to fly it this week. Don't worry! There will not be any passengers on this hot air balloon!
German Class
This week, we are learning about numbers and colors.
Reminder:
You can send a peanut-free healthy snack for your child to eat after recess. Also, if your child walks or gets a ride to school and they eat breakfast here, please make sure they arrive by 8:00.
Thursday Folders & Reflection
Please make sure to sign your child’s Thursday folder and Thursday Reflection on Thursday night. This is my assurance that you have received the information. Thursday Folders and Reflections should be returned on Friday, Thank you!
Sincerely,
