Curriculum Overview First Grade

 

Motor Skills

 

It is expected that students will:

  • throw, bounce, roll, and catch a ball with improved form
  • strike a ball with the hand (s)
  • move feet in simple patterns
  • kick, dribble, and stop a ball
  • jump a rope held by others

 

 

Physical Fitness

It is expected that students will:

  • participate in physical fitness activities
  • explore how exercise and nutrition influences fitness
  • discuss how fitness impacts health

 

Basic Movement Skills

 

It is expected that students will

  • walk, run, jump, and gallop
  • bend, stretch, twist, and swing
  • move safely while in one place and through space
  • identify and use body parts while moving
  • move up, down, over, and under
  • balance while being still and while moving
  • perform simple tumbling movements

 

 

Responsibility and Cooperation

It is expected that students will:

  • follow rules, procedures, and safety practices
  • cooperate and share with others
  • participate in activities from other cultures

Expressive Movement

It is expected that students will:

  • move at different levels, in different shapes, sizes, directions, and speeds
  • create a movement sequence with at least three parts
  • perform simple movement patterns to a beat
  • perform simple dances
