Curriculum Overview Third Grade

Motor Skills

 

It is expected that students will:

  • throw a ball with force while stepping towards target
  • catch a ball using proper techniques
  • dribble a ball using the hands and feet
  • roll a ball with force and accuracy
  • strike a ball using the hands a paddle, or bat
  • move feet in complex patterns
  • kick and trap a ball with either foot
  • jump a self-turned rope and a rope turned by others
  • create simple games using various physical education skills

 

 Physical Fitness

It is expected that students will:

  • participate in activities that deveolop physical fitness
  • discuss the different elements of physical fitness (strength and flexibility)
  • explore how factors, such as exercise and nutrition influences fitness
  • discuss how fitness impacts health and determine individual fitness level

 

Basic Movement Skills

  It is expected that students will

  • leap, slide, hop, skip, with a partner
  • bend, stretch, twist, swing, with a partner
  • move right, left, clockwise, and counter-clockwis
  • balance while being still and while moving
  • perform various tumbling and gymnastic movements

 

 

Responsibility and Cooperation

It is expected that students will:

  • follow rules, procedures, and safety practices with little or no teacher help
  • cooperate with a partner to complete an assignment
  • participate in activities from other cultures

Expressive Movement

It is expected that students will:

  • move through space with a partner
  • explore sharp and smooth, tight and loose movements
  • create and perform a movement sequence with at least three parts with a partner
  • perform dances
