Your child's First Day
Two important parts of your child's first school day:
TRANSPORTATION HOME:
IMPORTANT: Please do not send your child to school on a bus or drop them off to the Learning Lab without first having met with me personally and communicating how they will be
returning home from school
. (The bus your child returns from school is NOT the bus they take to school.) Transportation tags need to be filled out prior to you leaving your child in my classroom.
HOW TO HAVE A POSITIVE FIRST DAY OF KINDERGARTEN:
Often the emotions of our children mirror our own—if mom or dad
is upset/emotional, the child will be too. The first day of
kindergarten can be an emotional time for many parents. We want
our Kinderfriends to be excited about their first days in the
classroom. Please share your excitement for your child’s first
day and ensure that your child feels capable and ready to have a
wonderful time! Let’s set your child up for success!
Before the Kinderfriends start their day, they will sit against the wall outside of the Learning Lab. When it is time for the Kinderfriends to come into the classroom, I will have the students stand and will count "1, 2, 3!" and the children will say, “See you real soon!” and wave to their parents. Please give the Kinderfriends a smile and a big cheer as
they walk themselves
into the Learning Lab! Parents will remain in the hall, so that the children enter the classroom on their own and feel capable.
I will help any child into the classroom who may be distraught. I rarely have children who cry on their first day and those few who do, quickly find themselves immersed in the class and can't wait to come back to school the next day.
