Harrison Prep is an IB World School.
Music and the other arts are integral to the International Baccelaureate
program. As displayed in the image above, music, visual arts, and technology
are equal to all other subjects and vital to holistic education, or teaching
the whole student.
The Middle Years Program is based on teaching students how they learn and how
to learn better by engaging them in learning activities that integrate all the
subjects together, giving students a glimpse of what lifelong learning looks
like. Students develop skills and learner traits that will serve them in
their future educational endeavors, not just while they are at Harrison Prep.
I believe that music is crucial in educating students how to use math and
science in a creative way.
Students will:
-
Understand how fractions relate to one another and influence the emotional
context of music.
-
Understand how sound waves blend in a choir to create chords.
-
Understand why it is important to learn how to listen to the singers around
them and be a part of something bigger than themselves.
-
Be engaged in realistic performing opportunities and composition practice.
-
Understand what it means to be a musician & artist and how to improve.
-
Develop emotionally and socially through the artistic and teamwork
opportunities in choir.
