On Thursday, June 14/Friday, June 15, students will take their final assessment on The Hunger Games/The Phantom Tollbooth. They will choose one central idea of theme of the book, give examples from the book that support it and explain these examples.We have been discussing these central ideas in class. They include:
The Hunger Games: rebellion; violence; friendship
The Phantom Tollbooth: common sense (or lack of); things aren't always what they seem; imagination

Students chose either The Hunger Games or The Phantom Tollbooth for our sci-fi/fantasy unit. They have had their first quiz on the book. If they didn't pass, they may raise their grade to a "B" on the quiz by giving specific quotes from the book with the corresponding page number that answer the questions they missed. They can come see me before or after school, and during advisory with the permission of their advisor.
