DECEMBER:
Math
This month we are focusing on Multiplication and Division.  Students need to really practice their basic multiplication facts at home to help build a solid foundation.  Flash cards are a great resource!

Writing
Expository Essays
We have begun expository essays this month.  Students are working through the writing process as they complete pre-writes, rough drafts, edit, revise, and publish.  We are focusing on writing a solid paragraph.

Reading
READ, READ, READ!!!  We are reading stories from Theme 3 in our anthologies.  We are also comparing and contrasting in reading centers.  Ask your student how things are similar and different throughout the month to enhance this skill at home.  This month's book project is a Tall Tale and then a Sandwich.  These books can be picture books because it is a short month.
TALL TALE PROJECT DUE: DECEMBER 17th

Social Studies
Our first big unit of Social Studies will be the state of Washington.  We are focusing on the geography of Washington.  We will look at the differences, similarities, and unique features of the six different regions of our state.  If you have photos or postcards of specific places in Washington, please bring them in to share.

Science
We have finished our Land & Water unit.  This was a fun unit, and we will begin our second unit sometime after the start of the second trimester.
