Dear Families of Lake Louise Elementary:Welcome back to our 2012-2013 school year. I hope you had a wonderful summer and enjoyed the beautiful time of year in the Northwest. This year brings many exciting changes at Lake Louise Elementary. Several staff members were reassigned to different grade levels and classrooms for a variety of reasons, but most importantly to support student growth and achievement. This year, we will be implementing the district's new reading adoption; Read Well in grades K-2, and Journey's in grades 3rd-5th, along with the recently developed district-wide curriculum and pacing guide to support our instruction. We are excited to be administering a new online assessment program titled MAP (Measurement of Academic Progress). Students will be using laptop computers to take this math and reading assessment three times per year in grades 3rd-5th.Creating a safe and supportve learning environment remains one of our district's biggest priorities. In its effort to strengthen the prevention of harassment, intimidation, and bullying in our schools, Clover Park School District adopted Policy 3207. This new policy outlines for students and staff how to recognize, report and prevent harassment, intimidation and bullying. Anti-bullying strategies and expectations will be incorporated into the counseling and guidance curriculum. Detailed information is available on the district website. Our preliminary MSP (Measurement of Student Progress) state scores showed areas of tremendous growth and gains at Lake Louise Elementary, as well as some areas of loss. We will be continuing the work outlined in our School Improvement Plan to increase student achievement and remain focused on improving our math and reading scores. Families are welcome in our school and are encouraged to volunteer and participate at any level possible. We know through research that strong partnerships with the families we serve increases student achievement. Please contact Kathy Warczak our Volunteer Coordinator at (253) 583-5310 ext. 3130 to see how you can become more involved in our school. Please feel free to join our PTSA this year. Our new PTSA President Robin Conlon and the PTSA Executive Board have many fun and exciting events planned throughout this year. I am very excited to be starting my third year at Lake Louise Elementary. We have important work to do together and I am optimistic and hopeful that our students will make wonderful progress.
