Communication
I expect this to be a great learning year. One way for that to happen is by establishing good communication between home and school. You may leave a message at the school office (253)583-5310 or email me at jbruckli@cloverpark.k12.wa.us If you would like to speak with me in person, please let me know so we can schedule an appointment. This year we will be starting on-line grading. Parents will be able to view grades on the website; moreover, parents can log in at any time in the school year to view how their child is doing in class!
Homework
Homework is generally assigned every day (Monday to Thursday) expect Friday and over the weekends. I know that life can be very busy at times, so I plan not to assign more than one hour of homework Monday through Thursday. Homework is assigned with a due date. Work completed and turned in by the due date will receive full credit. This credit takes one of two forms: completion (done/not done), or a score based on the quality of the answers. Work with many errors may be done over for an improved score, provided it is completed within a reasonable time after the original.
Homework will generally be in the areas of math. Math is a focus subject at our school this year. The math homework should build on skills they have learned at school. Please set aside a quiet area for your student to do homework each night. Headings must follow expectations on all papers. Papers with missing parts of headings will be returned.
Headings
All assignments, for homework, in class assignments, or projects, are to have a complete heading to qualify for full credit. A heading includes the following:
| Assignment and Date Assigned |
For the Assignment portion, students must be specific. Include chapter and section if from the textbook.
Many students have access at home to computers for completing assignments and there are computers in the room. When using the computer, follow these guidelines. 1. Use 12-point, standard, easy to read font. Do not use fancy, decorative fonts. 2. Use standard, 1 inch margins. 3. Double space between lines of text. 4. Include heading
Grading
All practice assignments, tests and quizzes are monitored and tracked. No extra credit, other than for the joy of learning will be available. Late work loses points each day it is overdue. All work that is late more than week will result in a zero. Incomplete work is defined as work that is significantly less than that assigned. Incompleteness of work is determined by the teacher. Students may complete the assignment for late credit. Sloppy (if I can not read it) or incomplete assignments will be returned to the student.
Classroom Rules
We have a few rules in the classroom that your child is required to follow. Students are expected to behave in a respectful and courteous manner at all times. The entire class also has the chance to be acknowledged for their cooperation, participation and teamwork. Please also read the Cougar parent folder for more school wide expectations.
Absences
An absence is any day a student is not in class, be it for illness, field trip, or other reason. It is the student’s responsibility to make up work assigned during an absence. It is the student’s responsibility to find out what work was assigned during the absence. Students have one week from the date of return to complete and turn in that work for full credit.
Preparedness
Students are expected to have the following materials each day:
Two (2) pencils (sharpened)
Notebook/binder/folder
Lined notebook paper
Student Planner
Any assigned Homework
A reading book
