What happens if my child fail this course?
This is a required history course for all 9th graders. If this class is not
passed, credit is not earned which will qualify student as 9th grade status
in 10th grade year until credit is made up. The student can make up the
credit by taking a summer course or online class which will cost a fee of
approximately $150.
Is there any homework?
Yes, there is. Every week students are assigned current events and anything
they didn't finish in class. There is quite a bit of writing assignments
for homework which I prefer students to word process on a computer. If they
bring their disk/jump drive to school I can print it off for them. Students
can also email me their assignments in an attached word document. Check for
assignments on the homework icon.
How often do report cards come out?
Progress reports are either sent home with students or mailed home every 4-6
weeks. Check the news flash frequently for progress report send home dates.
You can check on your child's progress at any time in any class by emailing
or calling the teacher.
How can I make my child more sucessful in high school?
Ask to check your child's planner, ensure that your child has a healthy
breakfast (well fed brains fuction best), set a bed time by the latest 10pm,
stay in frequent contact with teachers, and monitor homework completion.
If you would like more information on how to help your child be more
sucessful in school the book "Grade Busters" by Stephen Schmitz, Ph.D. might
prove useful.
Will my child have a text book?
Your child will have a text book checked out from the Lakes High School book room. I will also have a set of books in class in case a student forget their book at home.
