My name is Devan Sweeney, and I am so excited that your child is in my class
this year. I was born and raised here in Auburn area, and am a graduate from
the Auburn School District! So, I am pleased to be here and working with the
community. I attended Central Washington University and just graduated last
summer with a Masters Degree in Literacy from Lesley University. This will
be my 7th year here at Lea Hill Elementary, and I look forward to another
successful year!
The love of learning is the ultimate gift a teacher can give her students. I
try to create magical learning experiences for my students that evoke
memories they will cherish. I hope to provide learning experiences that are
both exciting and memorable.
Respect for others must be an expectation when teaching students of any age.
I model respect by treating students with the same consideration that I
expect them to have for others. They need to know that they can ask their
questions and receive answers without fear of ridicule. There is always a
lot of laughter in my classroom, but it is never at the expense of a
student.
To me, a student's self esteem is of prime importance. Although I expect my
students to work hard in a focused atmosphere, I know that all individuals
work best when their interest is engaged and when they feel happy and
comfortable in their work environment. I try to pass on my own enthusiasm
for the subjects I teach and I am quick to acknowledge when students do
their best. Praise is the best motivator I know.
With great intentions and enthusiasm, I am looking forward to a great school
year with your child. I personally am devoted to motivate each student and
have your child succeed in my class and in life!
