Richard Carter, MFA

Richard Carter is a playwright and theatre director teaching a variety of 
classes in the Lopez Island School District.  He took is undergraduate degree 
in English from Vassar College, his Master of Fine Arts in Drama from the 
University of Washington, and his State Certification in Language Arts via 
Prescott College.  

Richard co-founded the Community Shakespeare Company on Lopez Island, which 
he continues to direct.  His series of adaptations of Shakespeare plays for 
young people is endorsed by the Educational Theatre Association, and his 
workshop for teachers, "Shakespeare Applied" has been presented at national 
conferences in the United States and Canada.

Richard currently teaches a variety of classes at Lopez Secondary School 
including Contract Learning, Middle School Literacy, Middle School Skills, 
Level One Math,Journalism, and Drama.  His past assignments have included 
high school Enlgish A.P. and English 10, Band, Middle School Music, and 
Elementary Languages.
