Field Trip News
Friday, March 22, 2013
Our big field trip of the year has been planned for Friday, March 22 and we’ll be visiting the Feiro Marine Life Center in Port Angeles and the Port Angeles Dream Park. The Feiro Marine Life Center (FMLC) is an educational and scientific organization promoting marine education and conservation and is located on the City Pier in Port Angeles. For a sneak preview, visit their website at:http://feiromarinelifecenter.org/. Our science teacher, Ms. Martin, has graciously offered to donate her free field trip to the marine lab to our class, so the cost is free. She will also be joining us for the day. Thanks, Ms. Martin!!
Schedule
We will be leaving school around 8:00 a.m. so students should come to my classroom instead of the morning assembly. We are taking sack lunches from school. We will arrive at the FMLC around 10:00am, where we will break into groups and rotate through three different stations. We’ll eat our lunches around 11am and head to the Dream Park (across from Civic Field) around 1pm where I’ll provide a special ice-cream treat. Then around 1:45pm we will head straight back to Neah Bay. Our expected arrival back to NBES is 4pm. You will need to be able to pick up your child at that time. I’ll use the contact information I have on file. Please let me know if there is a problem picking up your child around 4pm.
Supplies
Students should wear sensible shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. No sandals, please! They are welcome to bring pillows or blankets but they must fit inside of their backpacks, and please don’t send anything too valuable. Books are great as long as your child doesn’t get carsick. Please let me know in advance if your child is likely to have this problem. If your child will need medication it should be prearranged with the school nurse – let me know and I can get you a form. Snacks are a good idea, but let’s keep them ‘tidy’ – no sunflower seeds, chewing gum, etc., and no drinks except water.
Chaperones
If you would like to be a chaperone for the trip, please sign and return the form below. I am requesting four chaperones and will choose names from a hat if I get more requests. Chaperones must be willing to ride on the bus and cannot bring other children. Our insurance does not allow them on the bus. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at 645-2866 or hvanzant@cfsd.wednet.edu.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Vanzant
