Welcome to the 2009-2010 School Year Dear Students and Parents, I am very excited to start the 2009-2010 school year. I want to welcome you to our class. I will be your teacher this year. We will be in Room 24. This will be my eighth year at Neah Bay Elementary School and I look forward to a successful year of learning and fun. We have a lot to do this year! I will be sending home a Homework Policy, Classroom Management Plan and Class Schedule the first day of school. I would like to invite all parents, guardians, grandparents and anyone else who would like to join us to volunteer in our classroom. There are so many activities that would benefit from an “extra hand” in the classroom. Reading with students, practicing math facts, telling a story, or just helping us prepare for art activities are all important to successful learning. If you have a special talent or expertise that you would like to share with the students, please let me know. If you have a regular time you could volunteer or just want to let me know if you have occasional spare time, it is appreciated. The students will need a few supplies to help them with organization this year. Supplies can be brought anytime in the first week of school. They will need: 1. Three ring notebook (1 inch or 1 ½ inch wide is fine) 2. 12 pencils (please, no mechanical pencils or fancy plastic coated pencils) 3. Box of Kleenex or tissues 4. 5 pens for correcting or editing their work. They can have blue, black or purple ink. 5. The students will be given a folder to carry homework and notes home. All papers must go home in a folder or backpack. Papers seem to get lost when they are put in pockets or carried home in their hands. Back to School Night is on September 2, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Please come by to see our classroom and get acquainted! This year, the teachers have websites for parents and students to read about our classroom and check on important dates. My website is http://www.teacherweb.com/WA/NeahBaySchool/MissTownsend/ Thank you for trusting me with the education of your children. We can work together as a team to make this a wonderful year. Thank you, Roberta Townsend Classroom Management Plan Ms. Townsend -Fourth Grade 2009-2010 Students need a safe and positive environment in order to learn. In our classroom, I expect that each student will be responsible to maintain his or her behavior within reasonable limits. The rules and procedures will be discussed and taught the first days of the school year and reinforced during the first few weeks. Students will then be responsible to know and follow the rules. Students will be able to add rules to the list if they feel that there are additional responsibilities that are needed for our class. The rules in our classroom are taught as Rights and Responsibilities. The students have certain rights, and then they also have responsibilities that go with those rights. In our classroom: You have the RIGHT to a safe environment. You have the RESPONSIBILTY to follow safety rules set by the school and teacher. You have the RIGHT to voice your opinion. You have the RESPONSIBILITY to respect the opinions of others. You have the RIGHT to fair treatment. You have the RESPONSIBILITY to treat others fairly and respectfully. You have the RIGHT to a good education. You have the RESPONSIBILITY to do your best. You have the RIGHT to use schoolbooks, materials, and equipment. You have the RESPONSIBILITY to take care of all school materials. The Safety and Behavior rules in our classroom are: „« Keep objects, hands and feet to yourself. „« Respect other¡¦s belongings. „« Never do or say anything that will hurt another person¡¦s feelings. „« Follow directions the first time they are given. If students are unable or unwilling to follow the responsibilities and rules in our classroom, they will have consequences. „« First Consequence Reminded about the rules and warned about further consequences. „« Second Consequence Time out in the classroom, loss of privileges. „« Third Consequence Parent contact, detention time. If a student is still unable or unwilling to follow the responsibilities and rules, they will receive a write-up that is sent to the Principal and consequences will be given. More serious infractions will be written-up immediately to the Principal.
