PULLMAN HIGH SCHOOL

Practice slips are due Monday, 11/16. (150 minutes.) Six week grade reports
will go out this week.

Our Butter Braid fundraiser was a great success. Thanks to all who supported
it. We made a little over $1400...great work! For those who didn't get
their orders picked up Friday the 13th, I will bring them to class on
Monday. Please have either a cooler, a heavy blanket, or someone to take
them home in order to keep them frozen.

Thursday, December 3rd All-District Orchestra concert 7:30 pm LMS Gym

Saturday, December 5th Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast 11:00 am LMS Commons

LINCOLN MIDDLE SCHOOL

Practice slips are due Monday, 11/16. Any practicing done over Thanksgiving
break may be turned in the week of 11/30 for extra credit.

6th graders will have a playing test Wednesday the 18th over Unit 11.
Students may choose lines 1 and 2 or lines 3 and 4. Grading will be over:
Counting out loud
Intonation
Rhythm & bowing
Posture & position

6th graders do not need to bring their instruments on Thursday the 19th. The
Turkey Trot will happen during 6th period that day, and most students are
participating in that event. I will have a music related activity for those
students who are not participating in the Turkey Trot.

7th and 8th graders...great job on the Veteran's Day assemblies! I was very
proud of their performances and their excellent representation of LMS.
Thank you! And, thank you to the parents who attended.

Both classes will turn in their Opening Activity notebooks Friday, November
20th.

Our next concert is Thursday, December 3rd. This is the All-District
Orchestra concert featuring the orchestras from grades 4 through 12. It will
be at 7:30 pm in the LMS Gymnasium.

7th and 8th graders will perform for the Kiwanis pancake breakfast Saturday,
December 5th at 11:00 am.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS

Please look at the FAQ link to the left for more information about Elementary
Orchestra classes.

Advanced students should be working on the following music for our December
3rd concert:
Page 22 in their book (Brandenburg Concerto number 5)
Jazzy Old St. Nick
Take a Swing at This!
Cabbage Shoo

Beginning students should be working on setting fingers on the D string:
First finger (index finger) goes on the first tape (the one at the top of the
fingerboard) to make note "E."
Violins and Violas: while keeping first finger down, add second finger
(middle finger) to the second tape to make note "F-sharp." Then, while
keeping first and second fingers down, add third finger (ring finger) to the
third tape to make note "G."
Cellos: while keeping first finger down, add second finger to the space
between the first and second tapes and third finger (ring finger) to the
second tape to make note "F-sharp." Then, while keeping fingers 1, 2, and 3
down, add fourth finger (pinky) to the third tape to make note "G."

Notes on the "A" string are fingered in the same way: First finger for "B,"
the same fingering for "C-sharp" as they did for "F-sharp" and the same
fingering for "D" as they did for "G."

The Beginning students should be working on "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little
Star," "Old MacDonald" and "The Snowman."
They will be performing their music from memory at our concert December 3rd.
