ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS
Please look at the FAQ link to the left for more information about Elementary
Orchestra classes.
Advanced students will receive a practice cd this week. Hopefully this will
be helpful while practicing our concert music. I will not see Sunnyside
Advanced students this week due to the Veteran's Day holiday. The Sunnyside
Advanced class received a double practice sheet last week because of this.
Advanced students should be working on the following music for our December
3rd concert:
Page 22 in their book (Brandenburg Concerto number 5)
Jazzy Old St. Nick
Take a Swing at This!
Cabbage Shoo
Beginning students should be working on setting fingers on the D string:
First finger (index finger) goes on the first tape (the one at the top of the
fingerboard) to make note "E."
Violins and Violas: while keeping first finger down, add second finger
(middle finger) to the second tape to make note "F-sharp." Then, while
keeping first and second fingers down, add third finger (ring finger) to the
third tape to make note "G."
Cellos: while keeping first finger down, add second finger to the space
between the first and second tapes and third finger (ring finger) to the
second tape to make note "F-sharp." Then, while keeping fingers 1, 2, and 3
down, add fourth finger (pinky) to the third tape to make note "G."
Notes on the "A" string are fingered in the same way: First finger for "B,"
the same fingering for "C-sharp" as they did for "F-sharp" and the same
fingering for "D" as they did for "G."
The Beginning students should be working on "French Folk Song" on the D and A
strings, "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star," "Old MacDonald" and "The Snowman."
They will be performing their music from memory at our concert December 3rd.
Sunnyside Beginners will receive "The Snowman" on Thursday of this week.
Please explore the website and check back regularly as I often make updates.
