Journeys supports the Common Core by emphasizing explicit, systematic instruction in areas of reading, fluency, writing, speaking and listening, and language.

Daily 5
Our classroom uses the Daily 5  management system for reading workshop. There are 5 "rotations" that are literacy focused. Students will rotate through the following rotations; read to self, read with someone, work on writing, work with words, and listen to reading while the teacher meets with small groups or holds individual conferences.

Family Connections

"Family Connections"  provides fun ways to support your child's learning at home. Please check your child's Roosevelt folder each Monday. We are currently working with Houghton Mifflin to create a parent portal so that you can access at home.

Second graders should be reading (or being read to) for 10-15 minutes each night. This can increase over time.

Handwriting Without Tears®
Handwriting Without Tears® is a curriculum that Roosevelt uses to teach both number and letter formation. It makes handwriting easy and fun for all students regardless of ability.
