Peter Pan and
Wendy
Scene 1 A Nursery in London
Curtains are closed and pirate ship and mermaid lagoon are draped so all is
dark. Very soft, low lighting is on apron. Spot light is on the rocking
chair which is on floor, stage right between the giant teepee and Mermaid
Lagoon.
Girl
Help! Help! (as she runs across the apron)
Boy
Zap, zap (he chases her with his laser gun)
They run back across the stage – several fairies peek out at them from behind
the curtains. The fairies begin to follow as if to join in the game, but
they stop half way cautious, because they see an adult. Grandma Wendy enters
from stage right and goes to the rocking chair.
Grandma Wendy
Children come to Grandma Wendy (laughing). Give me a hug. It looks like you
two were having a good time!
Girl
Oh yes, Grandma Wendy! We were having the best game. I was a princess!
Boy
And I was a space pirate trying to capture her. See my super-mega laser. It
has different colors too.
While they are talking the fairies watch with interest and tip toe up closer
to hear them.
Grandma Wendy
Oh what fun. It reminds me of when I was your age. But now it’s time for
your bedtime story. Let’s get nice and cozy over here.
Grandma Wendy and the children move to the rocking chair, Grandma Wendy pulls
a blanket to cover her lap. The children settle on little stools on each
side of the rocking chair. Grandma Wendy touches the little girl’s head.
When Grandma Wendy says the word story, all the fairies creep up to listen.
They tip toe across the stage and sit on the edge of the apron. One stands
behind Grandma Wendy and one sits by the little girl and one by the little
boy.
Girl
Grandma Wendy did you play make-believe games when you were a child?
Grandma Wendy
Oh yes, dear. We spent many a day playing lovely games. We had adventures
with Pirates and Indians in a beautiful far off place called Never Never Land.
Boy
Pirates and Indians – oh how exciting!
Girl
Where is this place?
Grandma Wendy
Oh, it’s far from here. You have to fly to get there, but it’s easy to
find. The directions are second star to the right and straight on til
morning.
Girl
Grandma how did you fly?
Grandma Wendy
With a little fairy dust and good thoughts in your heart. It’s easy.
Boy
Fairies! That’s girl stuff!!
The fairies look upset! Some put their hands to their mouth in shock. The
fairy next to the boy is upset at first, but then reaches out to hold his
hand.
Grandma Wendy
Oh no my child, you are wrong. There is a fairy for each boy and girl.
Fairies help you play, dream and use your imagination. I knew a little boy
once who was a good friend to the fairies and played with them all the time.
Peter Pan was his name. He had the best games of all! When we played with
Peter it was. . . it was real. I never wanted those games to end.
Girl
Grandma, are fairies real? Where can I find them? Can I go to Neverland?
Grandma Wendy
If you have an open heart and use your imagination you may find the many
wonderful things like fairies or pirates and Indians or even space
creatures. Your imagination can take you to places you’ll never forget.
Neverland was a place that was so beautiful and special. It’s a place where
children never grow old. . .(pause then sings) I KNOW A PLACE WHERE DREAMS
ARE BORN AND TIME IS NEVER PLANNED
The fairies touch them with their wands and move to sit on floor near apron,
splitting up
so some on each side. Three go up onto the apron to be the nightlights.
Boy
How do you get there Grandma?
Grandma Wendy (singing)
IT’S NOT ON ANY CHART, YOU MUST FIND IT WITH YOUR HEART, TO GO TO NEVER NEVER
LAND
Scene 2 The Nursery Long Ago
Kids nestle in, putting their heads on Grandma Wendy’s lap, she sings and the
spot moves from Grandma Wendy to the apron where Wendy, John and Michael are
tucked in bed. Three fairies hold glowing wands as nightlights, one at the
head of each bed.
Grandma Wendy
It all began one summer night. Mother and Father were going out, and Nana
was babysitting.
Mrs. Darling
Nana, watch over the children while we are gone. I want to be sure they are
safe and sound.
Nana barks
Mr. Darling
And make sure they stay asleep – no getting up to play.
Nana barks
Mr. Darling
Or get into any trouble!
Nana barks
Mr. Darling
Their heads are too full of imagination. Do you know that John told me today
he saw a pirate ship floating through the sky?
Mrs. Darling
Oh, George, weren’t you ever young? (straightens his tie).
Mr. Darling
I shall get our wraps (exits off stage left)
Mrs. Darling sings Tender Shepherd as Nana sways to the music.
Michael
Mother, I am glad of you.
Mrs. Darling
Dear night-lights, that protect my sleeping children, burn clear and
steadfast tonight. (exits stage left)
Nana barks at the audience, yawns and moves off to a corner stage left and
goes to sleep.
Once Nana is asleep, the nightlights go off one at a time and the fairies go
sit on the floor. When they are off, Peter’s head pokes through the center of
the curtain and he looks around. Then he creeps out and starts hunting for
his shadow.
Wendy (waking up)
Oh! Who’s there? Who are you?
Peter
I’m Peter Pan. What’s your name?
Wendy
My name is Wendy Darling.
Wendy
Where do you live?
Peter
Second to the right and then straight on till morning.
Wendy
How do you get there?
Peter
Oh, it’s easy! (sings)
SWING AROUND THE SUN
STRAIGHT OVER THE MOON
TURN RIGHT AT THE SECOND STAR
TAKE A HOP AND A SKIP AND A JUMP AND THEN
(spoken) In Never Never Land
THAT’S WHERE YOU ARE!
Wendy
Never Never Land?
Peter
Yes, that’s where I live.
Wendy
I never heard of it before. How long have you lived there?
Peter
All my life I guess.
Wendy
It sounds wonderful, but why do they call it Never Never land?
Peter
Cause’. . .
YOU NEVER GO TO SCHOOL,
NEVER WEAR A TIE,
NEVER HAVE TO WORK,
NEVER HAVE TO CRY
NEVER WASH YOUR FACE,
NEVER COMB YOUR HAIR
NEVER GO TO BED
NEVER HAVE A CARE!
Never have to do nothin’ you don’t want to do!
Wendy
My goodness, a little boy would never grow up there!
Peter
To tell you the truth. I come here often, to hear the lovely stories your
mother tells you. We have no mothers to tell us stories in Never Never Land.
Wendy
Oh, poor Peter. That’s why you look so sad.
Peter
No, that’s not it. The last time I was here I lost my shadow, and I can’t
get along very well without it.
Wendy
Your shadow? What’s so important about that? What can you do with a shadow?
Peter
What can you do with a shadow?
ME AND MY SHADOW, MY SHADOW AND ME
WE’RE ALWAYS TOGETHER, AS CLOSE AS CAN BE
WE MAKE PICTURES ON THE FLOOR AND THE WALL
LLIKE RABBITS AND GODS AND THAT’S NOT ALL
WHEREVER WE GO WE HAVE COMPANY
ME AND MY SHADOW, MY SHADOW AND ME!
Peter
Now you know why I must have my shadow. Have you seen it anywhere?
Wendy
I don’t know. Mother did find a shadow the other night, and it didn’t belong
to any of us. She tucked it under my pillow to keep it warm. Is this your
shadow? (she pulls light grey cloth shape of Peter Pan from under pillow)
Peter (studies shadow)
Why, yes it is! Now, what can I stick it on with?
Wendy
Oh, that’s easy. I’ll sew it on for you.
Wendy gets needle and thread from the sewing basket and sits Peter on the
floor to stich the shadow to his feet. As she is sewing, she puts the cloth
shadow in the basket.
I’LL STITCH AND STICH
I’LL STICH AND STICH
I’LL SEW YOUR SHADOW ON
Peter
OUCH THAT HURTS!
OUCH THAT HURTS!
PLEASE MY DEAR GO ON!
Wendy
BE STILL, BE STILL, I’M ALMOST DONE!
THERE, YOUR SHADOW’S ON!
Peter stands up and we see his shadow on the curtain via the spot light.
Peter
Thank you, Wendy! That’s wonderful! Look how well it fits! (Peter does a
short shadow dance to the I Gotta Crow music – Peter is very proud of himself
and his shadow)
Peter
Wendy, look, look; oh the cleverness of me!!
Peter sings I Gotta Crow
Wendy
Well, of all the conceited (and she turns her back on Peter, irritated)
Peter
It’s getting very late. I must go back now.
Wendy (turning around)
Oh, please stay, Peter! Why must you go?
Peter
The Lost Boys are waiting for me.
Wendy
The Lost Boys? Who are they?
Peter
They’re little boys in Never Never Land who are lost and never grew up. I
promised to bring back a new story tonight.
Wendy
If you stay, Peter, I’ll tell you lots of stories you can bring to them.
Please, Peter, please!
Peter
I’ve got a wonderful idea, Wendy. You’d make a perfect mother for the Lost
Boys. You could tell them stories, mend their clothes and tuck them in at
night! Oh, Wendy, please come!
Wendy
Oh, no Peter! What would Mother think? And besides, I can’t fly!
Peter
I’ll teach you, Wendy! It’s easy, see? Just flap your arms like this –
Wheee!
Wendy
I’m trying Peter, but I can’t get off the floor!
Peter
I’ll fix that, I’ll call Tinkerbell. Tinkerbell!!
Wendy
Who is Tinkerbell?
Peter
Tinkerbell is a fairy. There she is!
Tinkerbell’s spot is seen darting around the space and her music plays.
Wendy
Where?? All I see is a tiny ball of light.
Peter
That’s Tinkerbell. All you can see of her is a little flame. But you can
hear her if you listen.
Tinkerbell talks in Wendy’s ear.
Wendy
Why so I can. May I say hello to her?
Peter
Certainly.
Wendy
Hello Tinkerbell!
Tinkerbell flashes around Wendy’s head
Peter
Tinkerbell, will you sprinkle some fairy dust on Wendy so she will be able to
fly?
Tinkerbell flies all around Wendy!
Peter
There you are, Wendy!
Wendy
Oh, I feel so light!
Peter
Now, wave your arms – that’s it, and think wonderful thoughts –
Wendy (waving arms)
Ice cream, Christmas, fairies
Wendy flies into the air
Wendy
Look Peter, I’m flying, I can fly! I can fly!
I CAN FLY, I CAN FLY! IT’S EASY AS PIE
I CAN FLY LIKE A BIRD, I CAN FLY!
OVER THE BED, ACROSS THE ROOM
RIGHT UP TO THE CEILING
I’M WHIRLING AND WHEELLING
AND FEELING AS HIGH AS THE SKY
I CAN FLY, I CAN FLY, I CAN FLY!
Wendy floats back to the floor
Peter
Of course you can! And now we can go to Never Never Land!
Wendy
Wait, Peter – I can’t go without my brothers, Michael and John.
Peter
All right, let’s wake them up.
Michael
We’re awake! We’re awake!
John
Wendy, were you flying??
Michael
How did you do it?
Wendy
Peter will you teach them to fly too?
Michael
Please!!
Peter
Sure I will! We’ll all go!
Wendy
What about Mother and Father? Don’t you think we should tell them?
Peter
Oh, no, Wendy. There’s no time. The stars are waiting to show us the way.
We’re going to have a wonderful time! Let’s goooooo! Tinkerbell?
Tinkerbell flashes around Michael and John
Peter
Michael?
Michael
Here!
Peter
John?
John
Here! (puts on his top hat)
Peter
Wendy?
Wendy
Here!
Peter and the Children (as the children and Peter sing, the fairies come up
to the apron with wands on)
WE’LL FLY AWAY, WE’LL FLY AWAY
TO NEVER NEVER LAND
TINKERBELL WILL LEAD THE WAY
TO NEVER NEVER NEVER LAND
WE’LL SING AND PLAY
WE’LL SING AND PLAY
IN NEVER NEVER LAND
SO FLY AWAY, SO FLY AWAY
TO THE LAND OF PETER PAN
Michael
WE’RE ON OUR WAY, WE’RE ON OUR WAY
AND WHAT A LOVELY VIEW
John
LIGHTS DOWN BELOW AND UP ABOVE
STARS TWINKING IN THE BLUE
Wendy
WE’RE ON OUR WAY, WE’RE ON OUR WAY
AND OH, WON’T IT BE GRAND
Peter and Children (mirror ball begins and all lights are cut)
FOR SOON WE’LL BE, FOR SOON WE’LL BE
IN NEVER NEVER LAND
Scene 3 Awakening of Never Never Land
They all fly off while the fairies twinkle and wave good-bye. When they are
gone, the music and mirror ball continue with soft lighting on the apron as:
• The Fairies do their ballet dance while the Forest Nymphs come out
and remove the coverings from the pirate ship and the lagoon and the main
stage curtains are pulled.
• Once all is in place, the Fairies dance off and sit on the floor in
front of the apron. The Forest Nymphs do their dance, ending on the main
stage.
• The Mermaids dance up the center aisle and dance in the lagoon.
Taking their seats when done.
• The Ostrich, Penguin and Peacock come up the center aisle, playing
with audience and dance when they reach the apron. The Ostrich sits over by
the TeePee; The Penguin moves on to the pirate ship and the Peacock cheers as
the Lost Boys come up, then sits with them.
• The Lost Boys leap frog up the center aisle and go to sleep center
stage by the big tree.
• Lastly, the Indians sneak up, all through the audience and stage and
sit cross legged on floor in front of their giant tee pee.
• When all are in place, the Penguin moves center stage, raises up
his/her wings and the mirror ball stops and the stage lights slowly come up
to show that day has begun.
Scene 4 Pirates & Jocko
All the Pirates enter singing up the center aisle in order of height.
Captain Hook is being carried on a pole chair at the lead. The very smallest
pirate is carrying the giant green cake.
Hook
I’M CAPTAIN HOOK, I’M CAPTAIN HOOK
I’M LOOKING FOR PETER PAN
BY HOOK OR CROOK, HIS GOOSE I’LL COOK
OH, I’VE GOT A WONDERFUL PLAN
Pirates
YO HO, YO HO, BY GUM, BY JOVE
CAPTAIN HOOK, HE’S GOT A PLAN
The pirates deposit Hook at the steps and remove the chair. As all the
pirates come up, Hook teases them with his hook as they go onto the steps of
the main stage. The cake is placed right on the center of the apron. Once
all are in position, the pirates do their tap dance.
Hook
Now, listen to this, me buckos. We’ll take the great big beautiful cake with
beautiful green icing and big red jellies –
Smee
Looks good. Let’s have a taste, captain! (goes to take a big finger swipe)
Hook
By the great horn spoon, nobody touches it, Mister Smee! (pokes Smee with his
hook)
Smee
Ouch! Me hand!
Hook
Now, we’ll place the cake right over here where those Lost Boys brats are
sure to see it. And when they come out to eat the cake, we’ll seize them
and take them back to the ship.
Starkey
And make them walk the plank, Captain?
Hook
No you fool! When Peter Pan learns that we’ve captured his boys, he’ll come
to rescue them and walk right into me trap!
Smee
It’s a great plan, Captain.
All pirates agree and offer thoughts – oh yes! Sure is, etc.
Hook
At last I’ll have revenge on Pan for making me lose my arm to the Crocodile!!
Tiger Lily is seen watching at the side of the stage
Pirates
YOHOYOHO BY GUM BY JOVE
I’LL GET YOU YET, PETER PAN!
Pirates dance again, Tiger Lily disappears. Sound of clock ticking. Hook
hears the clock and turns back to audience where Tiger Lily was just seen.
Hook shakes and looks and points and cowers. Jocko comes up the center aisle.
Jocko
JOCK THE CROC, OH JOCK THE CROC
JOCKO THE CROCODLE
JOCK THE CROC SWALLOWED A CLOCK
THAT GOES TICK TOCK ALL THE WHILE, TICK TOCK
TICK TOCK, THAT GOES TICK TOCK ALL THE WHILE
Hook
Run for your lives!!
Pirates are very afraid and all run randomly around the stage and onto the
pirate ship where they sit. Jocko sings and dances and once all the Pirates
are off, he waves and bows to audience and goes off.
Scene 5 Indians and Lost Boys Become Friends
The Lost Boys wake up and come forward, surprised to see the Indians laughing
as the Pirates are running away. Penguin is there laughing and enjoying the
fun.
Slightly
Captain Hook was trying to trick us and you tricked him back!
Tiger Lily nods and stands proud.
Tootles
He’s running like a scared rabbit!
Nibs (sleepily)
Who are you?
Tiger Lily
Me Tiger Lily.
Nibs
Thank you Tiger Lily.
Indian Chief
She Princess Tiger Lily.
Nibs
Thank you Princess Tiger Lily.
Twin #1
Why did you save us Princess Tiger Lily?
Tiger Lily
I look out for trouble but you not trouble.
Twin #2
We try not to be trouble.
Indian Chief
Princess Tiger Lily say you good boys. We be friends.
Indians
ME FRIEND YOU FRIEND
EVERYBODY GOOD FRIEND
OOM PA OOM PA OO
FAITHFUL TRUE FRIEND
FRIEND UNTIL THE END FRIEND
OOM PA OOM PA OO
Tiger Lily
EE!
Indians
OOM PA OOM PA OO
UGH!
Tiger Lily and the Indians do their jazz dance and sing to Ugg-a-Wugg .
Tiger Lily leads, when they are done, she points to Chief and Lost Boys and
clasps her hands to her heart.
Tootles
What did she say?
Indian Chief
Priness Tiger Lily say, now you join Indian tribe.
Dance continues as each lost boy gets a feather and they join the dance. At
the end the Indians shake hands with the Lost Boys and dance off to their tee
pee.
Scene 6 Arrival of Wendy
Nibs
Look, up in the sky! What is it? (all look to sky bridge where Wendy is
flying)
Curly
I don’t know.
Slightly
What is it, Tinkerbell? Do you know?
Tinkerbell dances around the boys with a jealous sound
Twin #1
She says it’s a Wendy bird.
Twin #2
What’s a Wendy bird.
Nibs
I don’t know. Let’s find out. (pulls out his bow and arrow)
Slightly
Don’t shoot it!
Tootles
Why not, it’s just a bird.
Nibs shoots the Wendy bird as Wendy is at the edge of the sky bridge – while
Wendy races down and comes to main all the lost boys move their heads in
unison as if watching something fall from high in the sky. The Forest Nymphs
create a wall around Wendy. The Lost Boys are distracted as Peter, John and
Michael come laughing up the center aisle, talking about all the adventures
they are going to have.
John
And can we hunt for pirate treasure?
Peter
Sure!
Michael
Can we find some Indians?
Peter
Sure!
Lost Boys (sadly)
Hullo Peter
Peter
Hello fellows! Why so glum?
The Forest Nymphs step aside so Peter can see Wendy.
Wendy! Wendy! Are you all right?
Wendy
I – I think so Peter. The button on my night dress protected me.
Peter
I’m going to punish those boys. And Tinkerbell too.
Wendy
Oh, please don’t Peter. I’m sure they didn’t mean to hurt me.
Curly
Oh, thank you Wendy. We’ve learned our lesson.
Lost Boys
OH, WE’LL NEVER SHOOT AT A BIRD AGAIN
OR HURT THE TREES AND FLOWERS
‘CAUSE A BIRD ON THE WIND, EV’RY LIVING THING
IS A PERSONAL FRIEND OF OURS.
Peter
What about you, Tinkerbell? Have you learned your lesson too?
Tinkerbell doesn’t want to talk about it. . .
Peter
You were wrong to tell the boys Wendy was a bird, weren’t you? You were
jealous, weren’t you.
Tinkerbell – yes!
Peter
Don’t you know, Tink, no one could ever replace you? We’re friends to the
end, you and I . Friends to the end.
The Lost Boys take Wendy back to their tree, where she sits and pretends to
tell them a story. The spot goes to Grandma Wendy and the kids.
Boy
Wow, Grandma. Did you really get to fly?
Girl
Grandma, what about mermaids! If I went to Never Never Land, I would want to
see mermaids!
Grandma Wendy
Well, why yes. It happened one night just as I was turning out the light
Spot fades and evening light is on the set.
Tinkerbell to Wendy – very alarmed
Wendy
Why, it’s Tinkerbell. What’s wrong, Tinkerbell?
Tinkerbell goes all around - very worried
Wendy
Peter, Peter, come quick – what is Tinker bell trying to tell us?
Tinkerbell continues to fly around
Peter
Oh, Wendy, this is terrible! She says Captain Hook has captured Tiger Lily!
Wendy
Where is she now?
Peter
On board his ship at the entrance to Mermaid Lagoon.
Tinkerbell says more –
Peter
But the pirates are taking her off in a small boat to Vanishing Rock!
Wendy
Vanishing Rock?
Peter
Yes, it’s a huge rock in Mermaid Lagoon. But when the tide comes in, it’s
all covered by water. That’s why they call it Vanishing Rock. If they put
Tiger Lily on that rock, she’ll drown. We must save her!
Scene 7 Mermaid Lagoon
Lights focus on Mermaid Lagoon and the Pirate ship. The mermaids are blowing
bubbles and the bubble machine is going along with the fog machine. The
fairies bring out the water fabric and take their positions. The mermaids do
their dance.
Pirates (on the boat)
YO HO YO HO BY GUM BY JOVE
WE’LL CATURE PETER PAN
YO HO YO HO BY THE WINDS THAT BLOW
WE’VE GOT A WONDERFUL PLAN
Hook
Heh, heh, heh, heh. This time I’ll kill two birds with one rock. Clever,
eh, Mister Smee?
Smee
Blow me down, captain, it’s a masterpiece of villainy.
Hook
I shall get revenge on Tiger Lily for trickin’ me in the forest. And I
purposely let that pipsqueak of a fairy Tinkerbell learn me plan. Now she’ll
tell Peter Pan and he’ll come to Tiger Lily’s rescue. But this time , he
won’t escape my trap!
Pirates
YO HO YO HO BY GUM BY JOVE
THE DEVEL MAY TAKE THE RAP
YO HO YO HO BY THE WINDS THAT BLOW
HE’LL NEVER ESCAPE THE TRAP
Noodles and Cecco are now seen rowing bound Tiger Lily towards the rock. The
mermaids flip their tails when they see the boat and the pirates coming. The
fairies are making the water wave with the fabric. Peter and Wendy arrive
and are watching.
Mermaids
BEWARE, BEWARE OF VANISHING ROCK
THE MISTY WAVES AND JOCK THE CROC
THE TIDE IS HIGH BESIDE THE LOCK
WATCH OUT NOW, PETER PAN
BEWARE, BEWARE, BEWARE, BEWARE
BEWARE, BEWARE, BEWARE OF VANISHING ROCK!
Noodles
Now you sit right there, and you’ll get what’s comi’ to you for trickin’
Captain Hook.
Noodles and Cecco tie Tiger Lily to the rock
Cecco
What’s going to happen to her, matey?
Noodles
The tide has already begun to come in. Soon the water will rise higher than
her pretty little head and that will be the end of her.
Cecco
And maybe the end of Peter Pan too!
They laugh and Peter and Wendy inch closer as the fairies make the water
higher and higher.
Wendy
Peter, Tiger Lily is in trouble. What will you do?
Peter
Watch, Wendy. I’m going to imitate Captain Hook. (he hides and changes his
voice)
Ahoy, let that girl go!
Noodles
What was that?
Cecco
Sounded like the Captain.
Noodles
But where is he? I can’t see him.
Peter (in Hook’voice)
Avast there, ye ugly sea dogs! I said let that girl go!
Cecco
Must be a trick of the fog. Let us follow the Captain’s orders.
They untie Tiger Lily who dives into the water as she utters a war cry and
swims away. Meanwhile, Hook has been swimming out to the rock. Tiger Lily
swims away as Hook speaks.
Hook
Boat ahoy!
Cecco
It is the captain.
They pull him up onto the rock.
Noodles
Captain, all is well?
Hook (looking around)
Where is the redskin?
Noodles
It’s alright Captain. We let her go.
Cecco
Just like you said.
Hook
Let her go?
Cecco
Twas your orders, Captain.
Noodles (whimpering)
You called over the water to us to let her go.
Hook
Brimstone and gall, what cozening is here? (disturbed by their faithful
faces) Lads, I gave no such order.
Noodles
Tis passing queer.
Hook (addressing the audience)
Spirit that haunts this dark lagoon tonight, dost hear me?
Peter (in his Hook voice)
Odds, bobs, hammer and tongs, I hear you.
Hook
Who are you, stranger, speak.
Peter
I am Jas Hook, Captain of the Jolly Roger
Hook
If you are Hook, come tell me, who am I?
Peter
A codfish, only a codfish
Hook (aghast)
A codfish?
Noodles
Have we been captained all this time by a codfish?
Cecco
It’s lowering our pride.
Hook (feeling his ego is slipping from him)
Don’t desert me, bullies.
Peter
Paw, fish, paw!
Hook
Have you another name?
Peter
Ay, ay.
Hook
Vegetable?
Peter
No.
Hook
Mineral?
Peter
No.
Hook
Animal ?
Peter
Yes!
Hook
Man?
Peter
No!
Hook
Boy?
Peter
Yes.
Hook
Ordinary boy?
Peter
No!!
Hook
Wonderful boy?
Peter (to Wendy’s distress)
YES!!!
Hook (seems to have run out of questions)
Noodles, you ask him something.
Noodles
I can’t think of a thing.
Peter (very cockly)
Can’t guess, can’t guess!!! Do you give up???
Hook
Yes.
Cecco and Noodles
Yes
Peter (crowing)
Well, then I am Peter Pan!!!!
Hook
Pan! Into the water, Noodles! Mind the boat, Cecco. Take him dead or alive.
The two pirates get into the boat, but the waves get so big they capsize and
are trying to get back into the boat. Peter stands laughing and crowing as
Hook realizes he is on Vanishing Rock and once again the tide is rising. And
suddenly Jocko the croc is seen and heard.
Hook
The water is getting higher and higher! The crocodile! The crocodile!
As the crocodile circles the two Pirates get back in the boat and rescue
Hook. Peter, Wendy and Tiger Lily laugh and they all go back home – Tiger
Lily to the tee pee and Wendy and Peter to the large tree.
Scene 8 In the Hollow Tree
The Ostrich, Peacock and Penguin strut and dance about the stage. The Forest
Nymphs move down and each pick a small child in the audience to dance with.
As the music fades, the animals and Forest Nymphs go back to their spots.
The lights come up on the back of the stage where Wendy, Peter and the Lost
Boys are at home. Peter is sitting with a pipe and a newspaper. The Lost
boys are asleep. Wendy is sitting facing the audience, looking sad.
Peter (looking up)
What’s wrong, Wendy? Aren’t you happy here anymore?
Wendy
Oh, it isn’t that, Peter. I was thinking about Mother and Father. They must
be very lonely without John, Michael and me.
Peter
Do you miss them too?
Wendy
Oh, yes. If we were home, Mother would be tucking me in bed and singing my
favorite lullaby.
Mrs. Darling appears in the spot on the skybridge
Mrs. Darling
LA LA LA LOO LA
LA LA LA LOO LA
WENDY IS SLEEPY

Wendy walks slowly to Peter and puts her head on his shoulder.
Lost Boys, John and Michael
LA LA LA LOO LA

WENDY IS SLEEPY
SWEET DREAMS AND GOOD NIGHT
Wendy
I’ve got to go back, Peter. Right away!
Peter
How will the Lost Boys get along without you, Wendy? You’re the only mother
they ever knew.
Wendy
I have a wonderful idea, Peter. You can all come home with me. I know
mother will love having you live with us.
Lost Boys
Oh! We’ll have a mother! A real mother at last!
The Lost Boys pack up by each getting a stick with a bundle tied on or an old
bag stuffed from right off stage. While they are packing, the Indians move
from their tee pee to stand in a line across the apron.
Indians

The Indians cross arms and sit on the edge of the apron to guard.
Wendy
Peter, now you look sad. You’re coming with us, aren’t you?
Peter
I don’t know. If I go with you, I’ll have to grow up.
Wendy
But Peter, everyone has to grow up sometime. Please come with me.
Peter
No. Not me. I’ll never grow up. Never Never Land is my home and I’ll never
leave it.
At this point they all freeze and the pirates sneak through the audience and
battle the Indians. The pirates win and they take the Indians off stage
left. Then the pirates come back and line the apron with Hook at the center
and the rest making the line across stage left to the pirate ship. Hook
leans in like he is listening.
John
Peter, the pirates must have attacked the Indians!
Wendy
It’s awfully quiet. Do you think it’s safe to go now?
Peter
No, Wendy. First we must find out who won.
Wendy
How, Peter?
Peter
If the Indians won, they’ll signal us by beating the tom-tom. Then you can
go out.
Hook (whispering)
Mister Smee. Tell the men to sound the drum.
Tom –tom begins to beat ONE two three four ONE two three four
Lost Boys
Hurray! The Indians won!
Peter
You’ll be safe now, Wendy. Tinkerbell will show you the way.
Wendy
Good-bye Peter!
Peter
Good-bye Wendy.
Lost Boys
Good-bye!!
As the children each salute Peter, they turn and they are grabbed by Pirates
and moved down the line, hands over mouths so they cannot shout. When the
last one leaves, Peter turns his back crying and waits until all are on the
ship. Then Peter lays down on the floor and cries until he goes to sleep.
Tinkerbell flies in and sounds very alarmed. She wakes up Peter.
Peter
Oh, Tink. What are you doing here?
Tinkerbell gives the alarm.
Peter
What? The pirates captured Wendy and the boys? Come on, Tink! We’ve got to
get to the pirate ship fast! Captain Hook is planning something awful this
time!
Scene 9 The Plank
Pirates
BY GUM BY JOVE BY THE WINDS THAT BLOW
WE’VE GOT THEM DOWN BELOW
BY GUM BY JOVE BY THE WINDS THAT BLOW
OVERBOARD, THAT’S WHERE THEY’LL GO
Hook
By the great horn spoon, my patience is at an end. Mister Smee!
Smee (who was right behind the Captain so he startles the Captain)
Aye aye, Captain!
Hook
Bring the prisoners up on deck.
Smee
Aye aye, Captain.
The children are bound and gagged and led onto the deck by the Pirates.
Jakes stands at the start of the plank.
Hook
Are their hands tied?
Smee
Aye, aye, Captain.
Hook
The plank ready?
Jakes
Aye, aye, Captain.
Hook
We’ll make every one of them walk the plank!
Jakes
To the end of the plank!
Hook
And down to Davy Jone’s lock! Heh, heh, heh, heh. . .
Smee
Aye, aye, Captain.
Hook
Mister Smee – can’t you say anything but aye, aye, Captain??
Smee
Aye, aye, Cap – I mean eh, uh
Hook
Stop blubbering like a blithering idiot, Mister Smee!!! (holds Smee up by
the pants to give him a major wedgie)
Smee
EeeeeeeYOOWWW!
Hook
Now you, girl. Wendy. You’re Peter Pan’s best friend, so you go first!
Captain Hook guides Wendy to the start of the plank with the tip of his
sword. The Pirates jeer and laugh.
Wendy
Please sir. I’m not afraid to die. But please let the other go free.
Hook
Not afraid, eh?
John
You won’t get away with this, Captain Hook!
Michael
Peter Pan will save us!
Hook
Peter Pan save you? Ho, ho ho –
Smee
That’s a good one! Ha ha ah
Michael
I’m scared. John! I’m scared.
Lost Boys
I’m scared. Who will save us? What can we do etc.
Hook
Your friend Pan is a coward. He won’t help you. (he pushes Wendy a bit
farther out the plank.)
Any last words, my dear?
John
I’d like to say something.
Hook
Keep it short, little blighter
John
Listen, all of you, Peter told me, always remember. .
IF YOU FEEL LIKE YOU ARE SINKING
IF YOU THINK YOU’LL NEVER LAST
IF THE WATER’S AT YOUR SHOULDERS
AND THE TIDE IS RISING FAST
IF THE NIGHT IS DARK AND GLOOMY
AND YOUR’RE HEADING FOR A DIP
NEVER FLINCH AND INCH
GO AND MAN THE WINCH
BUT DON’T GIVE UP THE SHIP!!!
Wendy
John, what are you doing? Peter can’t help us. He doesn’t know where we are.
John
He will if he can hear us. Everybody!
John, Michael and the Lost Boys
IF THE SKY ABOVE IS CLOUDY
AND THE SEA IS DARK BELOW
KEEP YOUR FAITH AND HOPE AND SPIRIT
NEVER LET YOUR COURAGE GO
To Hooks displeasure, Mr. Smee and the Pirates start to sway and then dance
to the music, joining in the song. Hooks looks at the audience with
hopelessness.
John, Michael, the Lost Boys and the Pirates
IF THE ICY WIND IS BLOWING
AND YOU THINK YOU’RE GOING TO SLIP
YOU CAN NEVER FAIL
IF YO HOIST THAT SIAD
BUT DON’T GIVE UP THE –
Hook
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-NOUGH!! Keep them quiet!!
The Pirates cover the boys’ mouths.
Hook
Line them up!
Pirates
Yea, line them up!
Hook
Now over the side with her!
Voice of Peter
Oh guard, Hook! This time you’ve gone too far!
Hook
I’m hearing things. I thought I heard a voice.
Starkey
Look! It’s Pan! It’s Peter Pan!
Peter sails on in.
Hook
It can’t be! Seize him!
Peter
Now boys!
The Lost Boys grab the astonished Pirates’ weapons. Wendy almost goes into
the water. While the Lost Boys sing they also send the pirates overboard;
Peter pulls Wendy to safety. Hook hides.
Lost Boys
WE’RE THE BOYS FROM NEVER NEVER
WE’RE THE BOYS WHO WONT GROW UP
AND WE’LL FIGHT ON FOREVER
WE’LL NEVER NEVER NEVER GIVE UP
PETER PAN WILL BE OUR CAPTAIN
AND WE’LL FIGHT NO MATTER WHERE
WE’LL CHASE THE PIRATE BAND
FAR ACROSS THIS LAND
CAPTAIN HOOK YOU’DBEST BEWARE!
Lost Boys, John and Michael, Wendy
Peter! You saved us! Hooray!!
Peter
ANY TIME YOU ARE IN TROUBLE
LET ME GIVE YOU ALL A TIP
NEVER YIELD TO FOCE
JUST STAY RIGHT ON COURSE
AND DON’T GIVE UP, DONE’T EVER GIVE UP, NO-
Peter, Lost Boys, Wendy, John and Michael
DON’T GIVE UP THE SHIP!
Captain Hook starts to come at Peter.
Hook
You cowardly sparrow! Come down here and fight like a man!
Peter
No one calls me a coward and lives. I won’t fly an inch.
Hook
Say your prayers, Pan. This is a fight to the finish.
The Lost Boys, Wendy, John and Michael all move to a corner of the ship while
Pan and Hook battle it out. Hook gets Peter into a bad position.
John
Fly, Peter, fly!
Peter
No! I gave my word.
They duel again, Peter getting the better position then Hook again gets Peter
in a bad spot.
Hook
This is the end of Peter Pan!
Tinkerbell flies between them, spins Hook, distracting him. Hook swipes with
his hook at Tink and she falls. Peter sees what has happened and advances
angrily on Hook. Hook panics, realizing he has made a bad mistake and backs
up until he is at the plank. Peter brandishes his sword, yelling and
swinging it around his head. He swings at Hook and knocks Hooks sword out of
his hands.
Hook
Surely, you know. . .I never meant to hurt anyone. Can’t you see I was only
joking? Heh, heh, heh.
The crocodile is heard approaching in the water.
Hook
No! Not the Crocodile – he already got my hand. . .
Peter
Would you rather face him. . . or me?
Hook starts to stand up, loses his balance and slides down the slide. We see
him swimming frantically, with Jocko right behind. As soon as they are
around and out of sight, Hook’s hook come flying back over the boat and into
the water.
Peter
Wendy, we’ve beaten them! The wicked pirates will never harm us again!
Wendy
The boys are all right, Peter. But what about Tinkerbell?
Peter rushes to where Tink went down.
Peter
Poor Tinkerbell. Captain Hook gave her an awful clout with his hook. I’m
afraid she is dying.
Wendy
Oh, Peter. What can we do to save her?
Peter
There is nothing we can do. But if all the children who can hear my voice
show that they believe in fairies by clapping their hands, that will save
Tinkerbell.
IF YOU BELIEVE IN FAIRIES, THEN CLAP YOUR HANDS
IF YOU BELIEVE IN FAIRIES, THEN CLAP YOUR HANDS
TINCKERBELL WILL GET WELL IF YOU CLAP YOUR HANDS
IF YOU BELIEVE IN FAIRIES, THEN CLAP YOUR HANDS
Tinkerbell comes back to life!
Wendy
Oh, look, Tinkerbell’s light is brighter than ever. The children saved her.
Oh, isn’t it wonderful!
Peter
Oh, yes, but
Tinkerbell sounds off and flies around
Wendy
What is it, Peter: What is Tinkerbell saying?
Peter
She says your mother is worried, Wendy. Right this minute she is sitting in
the nursery crying because she thinks she has lost you and John and Michael.
Wendy
Oh, I must fly to her, Peter. Quickly. Won’t you change your mind and come
with us.
Peter
Well, if I don’t go with you, I won’t know if you’ll ever get back.
Wendy
Then you will come, Peter? Will you?
Peter
Yes – I will! Tink – the fairy dust!
Tinkerbell flies around, the disco ball starts up as the stage lights fade
and Peter, the Lost Boys, Wendy, John and Michael all fly down the aisle the
fairies leading the way. The Ostrich, the Peacock, the Penguin, and the
Forest Nymphs all stand on the main stage and wave good-bye as the curtain
slowly closes. Once the curtain is closed, they exit and join the curtain
call line.
Scene 10 End of the story.
Spot goes back on Grandma Wendy and the Girl and Boy.
Grandma Wendy
So Peter steered the pirate ship straight through the stars back to the
nursery. Wendy told her mother all about Peter and the Lost Boys and of
course Mother said they all could live with them. But Peter changed his
mind – he just couldn’t stay. So every spring, when the moon is full, if you
look out your window, you may see Peter Pan coming to get Wendy – on their
way back to Never Never Land for a visit.
The lights go out. Tinkerbell dances on the main curtain while Grandma Wendy
and the Girl and Boy exit.
