Weekly Newsletter

Dear Families,

I can’t believe that it is already December! Time seems to fly by so quickly in the 1st grade. We are
looking forward to our Christmas party. I would like to invite all of you to attend. It will be Friday,
December 18 from 10:15-11:15. Please stay after for the all school sing a long.

In reading, we continue our work with making connections. In the coming weeks we will begin to
discuss visualization as a way to further our understanding of a story. When reading with your student,
please try to model what visualization looks likes so that the vocabulary becomes familiar.

In writing, we continue our work with writing small moments. Our focus has been on planning a story
before we write, and adding details to a story to create a better picture for the reader. In the coming
weeks, we will shift our focus from writing small moments to writing for readers, and the craft of
revision.

In math, we are just about to finish unit 3. This week we worked on frames and arrows, please see the
parent note in this week’s homework, and identifying coin denominations to the dime. Please continue
to review money, and telling time to the half hour with your child.

Finally, in this season of giving please remember those that are in need. St. Anne’s Parish is hosting its
annual Dinner for the Homeless on the 14th. Please send a pair of waterproof gloves and socks to
school with your child. These will be given as gifts to the guests. Thank you for your generosity, and
have a lovely weekend.
