| Homework is to practice the concepts discussed and worked on in class.
However, when working on math homework with your son or daughter,you have not
had the benefit of sitting in class. So take a moment to look at your
student's notes and in class work. Try the Internet (see links). Also, the
following questions maybe helpful to guide your study session.

Ø What have you been doing in class that relates to this problem? Can
you explain the main ideas to me so I can think about the problem with you?
Ø Do you have some examples in your notes or in classwork that would
help us think about this problem?
Ø Explain to me what you know right now, and why that is not enough to
do this problem.
Ø Explain these mathematical words to me. Are there words that you
don’t understand?
Ø What have you tried? Explain the steps to me. Can you explain this
in another way?
Ø Is there a way to organize this, with a sketch or a diagram or a
graph or a table that might help us to get a handle on the problem?
Ø If you can’t complete the problem, can you make a simpler problem
that you can complete?
Ø Write down a question that tells your teacher where you got lost.
Ø Is there someone else in your class that you can call to ask if they
are also having difficulty? Maybe that person has something in class notes
that you missed. Have you tried the Internet?
Ø Now that you have a solution, does it make sense? Can you check you
solution? Is your answer clear and complete? Convince me.
