Language Arts Update:
October 11, 2008
This week students worked on the following:
Turned in "Pet Paragraphs" and if they turned in their Book Reviews in on
time (last Friday) they were returned and should be revised and turned in by
this coming Tuesday. Since I was out ill for two and a half days, the
corrected papers were returned late so Tuesday, October 14 is the new due date
for final drafts.
We did an extensive assignment from the Intercity Transit Bus Schedule this
week. They had to figure out routes, distances, times, how to load a bike on
the bike rack and where the DASH bus goes. Studying schedules, graphs, and
charts is in the state standards so it was fun to keep it local. Hopefully
they will take you on a trip in the future!
World History Update
Both classes did "knight" presentations which were thoughtful and
hilarious. In small groups they acted out a portion of the part on a knight's
life. Many groups were creative with their acting and props. Today we did an
all class simulation on the feudal system and students were either a monarch,
lord, knight, or serf. King Jaehak and King Brent enjoyed relaxing on the
throne and eating goodies while the rest of the class defended its manors from
the invading barbarians. In addition to the action oriented work we have been
doing written assignments on Chapter 2 and began Chapter 3 this week.
Progress Reports: Students informed me that my progress reports were not on
line so I will try to pinpoint my problem and send them out. They got progress
reports (hard copies) for Language Arts on Thursday and they are worth 5
points if signed and returned. Some students turned in missing work today
(Friday) but I haven't had time to correct it so when the grades go out online
remember they may have turned in something that is missing. Hopefully I will
get all the missing assignments and new assignments that just got turned in
corrected by Monday. Have a great weekend!
