Second Quarter---
January:
Language Arts:
We are currently in the midst of writing some creative "Dragon" stories, most
of which are set in medieval times. (In theory we are combining the history
curriculum with writing.) Students are working on the following while they
work on the story:
Planning a plot
Organizing their papers
Vocabulary and strong word choices
**How to write dialogue correctly, including punctuation and capitalization!
Conventions (grammar, punctuation, capitalization, paragraphing)
Point of View
TEST: We took a test on writing dialogue and point of view. Soon to be entered
in the gradebook.
About the Author: Students are also compiling a short version of this about
themselves, written in the third person.
Reading: Silent Reading, A Christmas Carol which has some great, yet
challenging vocabulary. We are also watching the classic 1957 version as we
read which has helped with fluency and has included some interesting English
accents.
Medieval World/History
We are finishing up Chapter 5 which is about the "Decline of Feudalism"
including the bubonic plague and the Magna Carta. During each chapter we do
some prereading, work on upcoming vocabulary, and currently students are
reading out loud with partners.
