| We are excited about our '07-'08 Marshall Alternative Program Learning
Community. Feel free to come visit our classroom and share in our
learning. The overall focus for this year is the study of Washington State.
As we go through the year we will learn about history, geography,
economics, and political processes in our state. In the first half of this year we will be studying the
human brain and body systems. This will conclude with studies of human reproduction, growth, and
heredity in December. The second semester will be broken into studies of Washington geography,
government, history and economics. Science will be divided between a short study of weather and
climate and a more extensive study of energy, fuels, and our future decisions.
The next MAP Council meeting will take place on June 3 at 7:00 in the class-
room. This is an organizing meeting. All student council reps. should
attend, as well as parents that head up various committees and anyone else who would like
to come. We will be discussing the upcoming Field School.
The next M.A.P. Parent Meeting is Wednesday, May 7.
MAP has spearheaded and all-school drive to help build a school in Uganda. Students are learning to
produce simple bracelets that will be sold as an all-school fundraiser. MAP is also taking part in the
Marshall Environmental Community Service Fundraiser on April 27 as well as May 2 and 10.
Congratulations to Mac who placed second in the school GeoBee! We're proud of Mac!
Finally, THERE HAS BEEN A CHANGE IN THE MAP LOTTERY SITUATION. Although the lottery was to be
held at the beginning of May, we found that our pool of prospective students did not meet the balance
requirements that we are bound to by contract. Therefore, the application deadline has BEEN
EXTENDED UNTIL MAY 22. If you wish to inquire about the program, and/or obtain an application,
please contact the teachers at 596=7639 or 596=7641.
The final full week of school is a very busy one for the M.A.P. On Monday, June 9, the students will
gather at Millersylvania State Park. We will leave the school at 10:30 to have lunch, fun, reflection, and
planning time. Parents will join us in the later afternoon. We'll have a potluck to honor our 8th grade
families at 6:00. On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings the 8th graders will be doing their
exit project presentations. These begin at 6:30 each evening and the public is invited.
Eighth grade promotion ceremony is on Monday, June 16, at 9:00. Tuesday morning will be M.A.P.'s
time to honor eighth graders and say goodbye for the year.
