Dear Families,
We are pleased to welcome you and your child to 2nd grade at Tyee Park! I hope his or her experiences in my class will be both enjoyable and valuable. We will be learning a lot of new and exciting things this year and I know you will want to help make this a successful year.
I hope you will take time each evening to work with your child on his or her classroom work and homework. Each day, your child will be bringing home a “Take Home” folder. They will need to bring this folder back to school with them each day. Inside, you will find a pocket that has items to leave at home (graded papers, notes to you, school information, etc.) and a pocket with items that need to be returned to school (homework, notes that need your signature, etc.). I hope that this folder system will help keep the lines of communication open between school and home, as well as keep your student’s papers organized and not folded or wadded up at the bottom of their backpack. J
Communication
I look forward to talking with you as the year progresses. In addition to phone calls, emails, and parent conferences, we can communicate through the daily homework assignment sheets and weekly behavior sheets, which will be coming home in your child’s Take Home Folder.
Homework
I believe homework reinforces what has been taught in class, prepares students for upcoming lessons, and develops self-discipline and responsibility. Our goal is to make homework a positive experience.
Students can expect about 40 minutes to 1 hour of homework per night. 20 minutes of this time will be devoted to reading a chapter book. There will usually be no homework on weekends.
On a typical night, students are expected to complete:
· One page of math homework
· One page of a spelling homework packet
· 20 minutes of reading
I understand that special family circumstances come up once in a while. If a student is not able to complete a homework assignment on the night that it is assigned, please send a note on the day that it is due or give me a call at school. In such circumstances, students will be given extra time to complete homework.
If you have any questions, would like to visit the classroom, volunteer, or set up a parent-teacher conference, please contact me:
