This page is intended to answer any questions commonly asked by parents:
- What is the folder you send home each day?
- Do kindergarten students have homework?
What is the folder you send home each day?
Your child's daily folder contains some very important information.
First of all, any correspondence or information from our school is
sent home in this folder. Also, in your child's folder, on the left hand side, is the weekly
behavior and work habits grade for the week. This will appear on Friday
only. Please go over any behavior or work habits that your child has
received a check mark on. The grades are numeric - 4, 3, 2, 1. Each
of these correspond to a standards-based grading system where a 4 exceeds
expectations, a 3 meets expectations, a 2 is approaching expectations, and
a 1 is well below expectations. I would appreciate it if you would
initial on the line for the week in which you see a comment. This form
should remain in the folder until the quarter ends, after nine weeks.
Do kindergarten students have homework?
Each week, on Monday, your child will receive in their folder a sheet
entitled "Homework News". This is a day by day listing of the work
that I expect your child to complete during that week. Each day, I
would like you to read with your child for 15 or 20 minutes. Please
write the name of the book you and your child have read on the Monthly
Reading Log, also contained in your child's folder. Have your child
color the object contained in the square for that day. At the end of
the month please return this monthly log in your child's folder. Your
child will receive a reward for completing the reading homework for
the month.
In addition, nearly every week, your child will be required to complete
an activity or game with you for Math. These games should be played
repeatedly in order to foster competence with the targeted skill.
Homework that requires your child to write a written response should be
returned to school in their folder.
