8th Grade Language Arts

First Quarter Book Log is due October 27. It must be signed by a parent or
guardian. It is worth 10% of your final grade.

A reminder of how to write the statement of theme for your book is to complete this
sentence: The author believes that ...(write a universal truth that you found in the book.)

Students analyze their schedule to help them determine the amount of time they
can work on their homework, which includes 30 minutes minimum of reading they
need to do every day. Then they set an independent reading goal for themselves gave reasons
for that goal. Students keep a list of books they have finished and get a parent or guardian
signature at the end of the quarter before they turn it in. Only one book they read each quarter
much be in the thematic subject I specify, the remainder of their reading choices are up to them.
The required thematic book this quarter is "The Challenge of Heroism." Quarterly book logs were
handed out and are always available in class as well.

Students need to read for at least 30 or more minutes each day, including weekends! That's just
three and a half hours per week of reading outside of class.
