Mr. Clarke received his B.A. from Pomona College in 1981, majoring in
Government. In 1982 he added a German major through Middlebury College, and
in 1984 he received his master's degree in Education from Stanford University.
In 1987 Mr. Clarke joined Washington Middle School as a Block teacher, but
then moved to the math department in 1991, where he's taught every section
over the years, though he tends to teach mostly 8th graders. In addition to
math, Mr. Clarke has taught Enrichment, Geography, GenWhy, Health, and GIS
(geographical software). Mr. Clarke has also coached many soccer teams.
In 2009 Mr. Clarke completed one year of working toward his National Board
teacher certification. (He won't find out if he's passed until December 2009.)
Mr. Clarke is married to Robin Clarke, who teaches Science at Jefferson Middle
School. They have two daughters: Deirdre, who attends Whitman College, and
Rhiannon at Olympia High School. Both attended WMS.
