I have had the wonderful opportunity to teach in public schools for 23
years. Seventeen of those at Washington Middle School. I've taught P.E.,
foreign language survey classes, coached, Yoga club, Language Arts and Social
Studies over the years.
Here is some basic personal history:
Born and lived in North Carolina for most of nineteen years
Lived in PerĂº when my parents took teaching positions in Lima
when I was in 6th grade. That experience started my love
of learning about other cultures, Spanish and equal rights issues.
Graduated from the University of Arizona with a Masters in Education.
Achieved passing the National Certification in Language Arts 2007
Earned certification for TESOL -
Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages in 2008
Married to Brad Wright 26 years now - wow
Have 3 children: Eden Whitmire, Alan and Rachael Wright - ages 21-31
which have provided me with endless opportunities to learn
how to be a better teacher
Earned teaching certificate for Yoga in the spring of 2008
I am enthusiastic and committed to creating an engaging curriculum to provide
learning opportunities for all of my students.
One overall goal is for students to improve writing skills, reading
comprehension and critical thinking.
Another goal is to integrate Language Arts with Social Studies topics in order
to maximize learning in a more connected way.
A third goal is to broaden students' understanding of the world by studying
geography, cultures, and history of ancient civilizations as outlined in our
district's curriculum map(Ancient Mesopotamia, Ancient Egypt, Ancient India,
Ancient China, Ancient Greece and Rome). We use the district adopted text -
HistoryAlive! as the core of the class. However, at times we go beyond that
text for research, current issues, and personal interest projects.
The most important goal is to encourage all students to work to the best of
their ability in order to achieve the highest level of each student's personal
success.
