*This list is not all-inclusive; these are just some camps that Ms. Sartori knows about.

Cougar String Camp


Who: violinists, violists, cellists, bassists going into 8th-12th grade

When: July 2nd - July 7th, 2017

Where: Washington State University Campus in Pullman, WA

What: Play in one of three orchestras, sectionals, chamber ensemble, string techniques classes, music theory/composition, jazz improvisation or fiddling, faculty concerts

How Much: $485 includes: instruction, room/board, camp t-shirt, and evening events.  If applying for scholarship, application & recording are due by April 24th; regular application, recording, and fees due by May 13th.

 Good To Know: You need to submit a recording of an audition to go to this camp; don't be scared - it's not to keep you from entering camp, it's just to make sure you get placed in an orchestra and chamber ensemble that's the same playing level as you.  Let Ms. Sartori know if you need help recording/submitting an audition.




Lake Samish Music & Fine Arts Camp


Who:  Music students (band orchestra or choir), 5th-12th grade

When: July16th - July 22nd, 2017

Where: Lutherwood Camp and Retreat Center on Lake Samish (10mi. south of Bellingham, WA)

What: Students choose a major (band/orchestra/choir), and two electives (beginning instruments, African marimbas, beginning guitar, theory, composition, jazz improvisation, jazz band, one act dramas, improv theatre games).  Students will also have opportunities to go hiking, swimming, canoeing, blobbing, and participate in the high ropes challenge and evening campfire.

Evergreen Music Festival

This camp is presented by the Tacoma Youth Symphony Association


Session I

(day camp)

Who: orchestra students enterting grades 3-8 with minimum 1 year experience; brass/percussion students entering grades 6-8 with minimum 1 year experience

When: 8:15am-3:30pm, July 24th-28th, 2017

Where: Pacific Lutheran University,

What: Orchestra, music elements/history, sectionals, lecture/recital demonstrations

How Much: $350 before May 15th; $390 after
($100 deposit postmarked by May 15th)

Session II

(overnight camp)

Who: orchestra/band students entering grades 9 and above

When: July 30th-August 5th, 2017

Where: Central Washington University in Ellensburg, WA

What: Orchestra, chamber music, sectionals, all-camp choir, form analysis, music elements/history, masterclasses, daily concerts/recitals by students and faculty

How Much: $740 before May 15th; $795 after
($200 deposit postmarked by May 15th)

Summer String Academy


Who: Orchestra students going into 6th-9th grade

When: July 23rd - 28th, 2017

Where: Lazy F Camp & Retreat Center in Thorp, WA (about 25min. West of Ellensburg)

What: Large and small ensembles, fiddling, music theory, small group sessions with professional musicians, ropes course, zipline, water Olympics, inner tube floats, arts/crafts, hiking

How Much: $560 if deposit is received by April 1st, $610 if deposit is received after April 1st
