Woodbrook Orientation and Welcome
W.O.W. is an orientation program that started in November of 2012. Woodbrook Middle school receives new students nearly every day, all year long. We believe getting them started off on the right foot can only help them be successful. The intent of the program is not only to help the new students, but to also help the classroom teachers. The students will enter each class with a basic understanding of Woodbrook’s School-Wide protocols.
The students receive a one hour orientation to the practices, procedures and programs Woodbrook staff and students uphold.
· School-Wide classroom procedures: Learning targets, entry tasks, Woodbrook Creed, personalized agenda/tracker, STARS, and 3 Step-behavior model, etc..
· District and School-Wide policies: Dress code, tardies, PDA, electronics etc..
· Woodbrook Activities: AYPYN, Athletics, Wildcat day, etc..
· MAP survey: Measurement of academic progress for Math and Reading
The students also receive a grade-level ambassador, who serves as a first day friend, guide and lunch buddy, to help acclimate and familiarize the student with their new surroundings.
We are hoping this program will help reduce the normal amount of anxiety, apprehension, fear, and stress that many students feel when starting a new school. Giving them a “jump-start’ to school-wide expectations and classroom protocols will help them be knowledgeable, and therefore comfortable and secure in their new setting. Welcome to Woodbrook!
