National Board Certification Journey

What is National Board certification?

National Board Certification is an advanced certification process in which teachers go through specific assessments to be an accomplished teacher. This certificate is recognized nationally throughout the world. Teachers are required to gather data within the classroom to provide evidence of core proposition.

There are 5 Core Propositions:

  • Teachers are committed to students and their learning,
  • Teachers know the subjects they teach and how to teach those subjects they teach and how to teach those subjects to students.
  • Teachers are responsible for managing and monitoring student learning.
  • Teachers think systematically about their practice and learn from experience.
  • Teachers are members of learning communities.

I began my National Board journey in 2009. I am very proud to say I became a National Board Certified Teacher in 2010. Since that time I have wanted to pay it forward to other teachers and became a mentor for National Board Certified Candidates in 2011.
