6th/7th and 8th graders: Right now we are learning how to conjugate AR verbs.
And also learning the differences between singular/plural words. Looking
ahead: 6th/7th and 8th graders will be responsible for doing a "famous 
Latino"
project details will be posted on my web this coming week. (You might want to
print a copy of the project for your records!!)

5th graders: We are now working on the weather. We will be starting a project
on weather. Please remind your child to bring in a weather report from the
newspaper or internet that has the full 7 day outlook.(if you can't find one
that has 7days 5 would be fine) THIS IS DUE THURSDAY SEPT. 25th.

4th graders:  You will be receiving your quiz on Thursday. DO NOT PANIC...if
your child did not do well please have your child see me for extra credit
opportunities on TUESDAY. We will be starting to learn the calendar.

2nd/3rd graders: Your child recently took a quiz in spanish. Please know that
the test/quizzes are used simply as an assessment. The assessment is written
and oral during class time. Please look at webgrader for the "final" grade.
The children will not be taking anything home with a final grade, please 
check
the webgrader for the grade on the assessment.

2nd graders; Are currently working on days of the week and months. Look for
some materials coming home, so that you can review with your child.

3rd graders: Are currently working on Who am I? They are learning vocabulary
that has to do with themselves. 

1st graders: Are currently working on mastering numbers 1-30. Look for cards
coming home with the number in spanish. Have your child practice saying the
numbers to you. (do the best that you can with pronunciation) Also, coming
home this week is the "traveling spanish book" One person, will take the book
home to share with mom's and dad's on what they are currently learning in
spanish class. Please return the book to school, so that the class can earn a
sticker.

K5 grades: I hope your children are enjoying the "traveling spanish book". If
your child has not had a chance to bring the book, they will be getting it
soon. Please make sure that the book is returned to school, so that the class
receives a sticker.

K4 grades: Currently, in spanish the children are learning colors and numbers
up to 10. We also, are learning about the VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR. They are
learning the different words in Spanish, to go along with the lesson in
English. Look for some materials coming home next week.

Hola!
I hope your children have been telling you about all the fun things that they
have been learning in Espanol.
Today, I am sending home a Spanish folder with your child.  Inside you will
find some of the cool things that we have been learning about in Spanish
class. You may keep the materials inside the folder. I encourage you to go
over them with your child. You might find that they will be teaching you
Spanish!!!

Currently, we are learning about our senses. Going, along with the fall 
theme,
we discussed apples/MANZANAS. How they taste, look, smell and even feel!! We
reviewed three colors, red, yellow and green. Please look at the enclosed
sample!! Feel free to have your child color the manzana at home.

Please make sure that the folders are returned to school the day after you
receive them. Your child will earn a sticker for bringing back the folder!!


6TH-7TH AND 8TH:

Hispanic Heritage Report will be due OCT. 29th. No late projects will be
accepted!! 
In class you should have picked one famous hispanic person to report on. You
will have a choice of the following projects:

Project1: design a time-line for the famous hispanic life. The time line
should include at least 15 major events in that person's life.

Project2: design a magazine cover for the famous hispanic. Come up with a 
name
for your latino magazine and write a 1-2 page article about the famous 
Hispanic.

Project 3; make a mobile. Your mobile must contain at least 8-10 items with a
paragraph written for each item telling why you chose it as an important
symbol for the person.

Project 4: Interview. Come up with a set of questions (10-12) that you would
ask this famous person and how the would answer each one of them. Pick 
someone
form the class that would ask you the questions and you would pretend to be
that famous person, answering the questions. You need to dress like your
character. Please see Mrs.McClellan to approve your outfit.

Project 5: Newspaper. Design a front page of a newspaper. Write a news story
about this famous person. this article should be 1-2 pages. The article 
should
include at least two pictures and attention grabbing headlines.(the name of
the newspaper should be in spanish)

Project 6: Power point presentation. Make a report using Microsoft Power
Point. Include the following slides: title of your presentation, who you are
presenting and 8-10 slides wit different events of the Hispanic's life. A
paragraph should be included with each slide describing what the slide is 
about.

                    GRADING WILL BE BASED ON A RUBRICS:
ALL OF THE ABOVE PROJECTS MUST BE TYPED/OR NEATLY HANDWRITTEN. IF TYPED THEY
SHOULD BE DOUBLED SPACED, USING 12 POINT FONT.

ALL OF THE ABOVE PROJECTS SHOULD INCLUDE A BIBLIOGRAPHY OF ALL RESOURCES 
USED.
YOU MUST HAVE 4 DIFFERENT BIBLIOGRAPHIES. 

ALL OF THE ABOVE PROJECTS SHOULD INCLUDE CONTENT THAT IS WRITTEN CLEARLY AND
CONCISELY WITH A LOGICAL PROGRESSION OF IDEAS AND SUPPORTING INFORMATION. THE

NOVEMBER ANNOUNCEMENTS (This section is also listed under announcements)

Changes for 2nd quarter:

-no extra credit will be available for the 2nd quarter. Only on tests.
-If a student does not do well on tests/quizzes they do have the opportunity
to come and see me to make corrections on tests/quizzes for partial credit.
-Reminder no re-do's on any word of the day......students may re-do poor work
for partial credit. (As it relates to other homework,other than word of the 
day)
-Reminder if any long/short term projects are assigned they are due the day
that it is assigned. Only illness, excuses will be accepted.


Please encourage your student to come in and see me if they are struggling
with any area in Spanish. I would be happy to assist your student!! Please
make sure if it is after school that they make an appointment with me, so 
that I am available on that particular day. I am available during lunch 
hours or before school. Thank you!!

                               November 10-15th

As the 2nd quarter is well on the way.....please make sure that you are
checking your students webgrader. Any missing work should be turned in as 
soon
as possible. Please do not leave any missing work for the end of the 
quarter!!
Same with re-do's they should be completed as soon as possible.

-make sure that you translate the sentence

                              NOVEMBER 17-22ND:


7th and 8th graders:
*REMINDER* Make sure you study for Part 1 of a 3 part quiz.
For this Monday Nov.17th you will need to know only how to change the verb 
ser and estar and the following:
-know the meaning of each verb (they both mean to be)
-And what types of verbs are they (they are irregular verbs)

On Dec.3rd
*you will need to know the reasons why you use ser and estar. Make sure you 
study the bottom of the white sheet. What is on the white sheet is what you 
are expected to know.

When we get back from Thanksgiving break we will continue to review 
ser/estar and eventually will have the final quiz.
Please stop in and see me if you need any help studying or have any 
questions.

6h graders:
Are working on forming simple sentences using the AR verbs. They are 
expected to put together sentences conjugating them into each pronoun form.

5th graders:
Make sure that you are studying your weather vocabulary you will be having a 
quiz this Thursday, Nov.20th. *REMEMBER YOU WILL NOT HAVE SPANISH ON 
TUESDAY, SINCE STUDENTS DO NOT HAVE SCHOOL ON TUESDAY* Please come in and

3rd graders:

as they relate to themselves and the family.

Is starting a new unit. They will be learning about winter related items and
winter clothing. They should be brining home some worksheets and projects

4th grade:
Before, the holiday break we had started working skits that have to do with
making purchases at stores. We will continue to work on those and will also 
be
working on learning store vocabulary.

5th grade:
Before, the holiday break 5th grade was working on intergrating spanish words
into x-mas stories. We will continue to work on finalizing those stories and
the final copies will be due on Friday, January 9th.

2nd grade:
Will be working on the story "Three Little Pigs" We will be working on the
play version of the story in spanish. Both classes will be putting together a
short play. Look for details coming home soon!!

K4,K5 and 1st grade:
Are working on learning the correct way of saying the spanish alphabet. They

In addition, 6th graders are working on making a comic strip using the list of
IR verbs. They must use all verbs in the comic strip. Here is the list of
requirements and guidelines for this assignment.

1. Make sure you have 9-10 comic frames
2. Make sure that tyou use all your spanish words...make sure that they are
used in the proper grammar.
3. The comic strip must be written in spanish
4. Make sure that all your pictures are hand drawn and not images from google
images.

Each square is worth 5 points, therefore the projects are worth 45 points...the
10th square is extra credit extra 5 points the project is worth a total 50 points.

This Wednesday, April 1st you should come with some of your rough draft
completed to show me. YOUR FINAL WORK WILL BE DUE WEDNESDAY APRIL 8th.

5TH GRADE: Is working on the changes of AR verbs. We will continue to work on
sentence formation using these verbs.

4TH GRADE: The history of Costa Rica play is going to be performed by the 4th
graders. Right now they are starting to work on scenery and reading individual
parts for the play.

3RD GRADE: We will be continuing to study the animals, but we will be taking a
short break and be looking at the way Mexico celebrates EASTER. 

2ND GRADE: WOW!!!! A million gracias, for your amazing performance in the 3
little pigs. You guys did a great job!! Also, thank you parents for helping
with costumes and behind the scenes!!
Now, the 2nd graders will be reviewing some body parts, adding some and
learning expressions of feelings. Look for materials coming home soon!!

K4,K5 and 1st grade:
They are continuing to work on animals and letter sound and recognition in
spanish. Please look for different materials coming home soon!!

Hello, and welcome back to school! I hope everyone had a relaxing spring break!!

For the next couple weeks left of school I am hopeful that all the kids will
stay focused and work really hard to have a good end to the year!! Staying
focus in class will lead to less work outside of the classroom to enjoy the
beautiful weather ahead of us.

8th grade:
The following sentences need to be translated to english, and in the blank you
need to place por/para and finally the reason why you use por or para.

1.  Voy a casarme_____amor.

2.  Roberto tiene que harcerlo_____manana.

3.  Luis estudia_____medico.

4.  Ayer you trabaje_____Luisa porque ella se enfermo.

7th and 8th grade:
Please make sure that you are studying your POR and PARA song. You will be
quizzed on Monday, April 27th. This will be a written quiz!! On Wednesday,
April 29th your quiz will be on POR and PARA. You will be asked to translate
simple sentences and fill in the blank with POR or PARA. Similar, to the
assignment above.


6th grade:
Please make sure that your final rough draft is complete for Wednesday, April
22nd, so that when you come to class you are ready to work on your final
draft. Also, please make sure that you have your test signed for Wednesday
April 22nd!!


7th and 8th grade: QUIZ ON MONDAY, April 27th......JUST ON THE POR AND PARA
SONG.....YOU DO NOT NEED TO SING IT!! YOU MUST WRITE IT. HERE IT IS IN CASE
YOU FORGOT IT!

On Wednesday, April 29th you will have a quiz on POR and PARA:
The quiz will be similar to the paragraph you worked on in class. You will
need to pick either por or para and translate the paragraph. 

You will also have some sentences that you will only need to pick por or para
and the reason why you picked por or para. 
Please come and see me if you do not understand how you use these two words. 



-----------------------------May 12th and beyond------------------------------

Lots going on these last couple of weeks of school.

8th grade: We are working on a final mini project in the classroom. This will
be due on May 18th. With our last Spanish class May 20th. I wish the class of
2009 much success in high school and beyond. Please make sure that you work 
on this at home if you are in 8A since you will not have Spanish on 5/13 due
to the concert during the school day!!

7th grade: Currently, the 7th graders are working on Direct Object Pronouns.
They should be working on translation of sentences along with identifying DOPs.

6th grade: 6th graders are working on interrogatives (questions) in Spanish.
Reminder if you have any missing work you need to get it in by: May 28th  We
only have 5 more Spanish classes. 

5th grade: You will be having a quiz on your AR verbs and pronouns on May
15th. Please make sure you look over your notes.

4th grade: Fourth graders have been working hard on the play "The History of
Costa Rica" All props need to be brought to school by this Thursday,May 14th.
You will be receiving a note from your son/daughter with details regarding the
play. Performance times will be: 4A-8:50-9:20  and 4B 10:25-10:55.

3rd grade: Third graders have been busy working on a couple of different
things. They learned and continue to learn about Cinco de Mayo. Hopefully,
everyone received the paper flowers, which the children made. They are a
tradition of Cinco de Mayo celebration in Mexico.
In addition, we will wrap up the year with finishing up our animals.

2nd grade: Second graders have also been learning about Cinco de Mayo and the
traditions that they celebrate here at home. They wrote an Acrostic poem using
some spanish words. They also are working on writing a story for cinco de
mayo,partially in spanish.

K4,K5 and 1st grade: Are finishing the year by continuing to learn about the
different farm animals. Hopefully, they have been bringing home the small
collection of animal papers!!
