Speakers and Fundraisers

Speakers

During the month of April our students have the privilege of listening to 
two terrific speakers - Janie Lynn Panagopoulos and Rob Reid.

On April 10 Mrs. Panagopoulos spoke to grades 4-8 about the process of 
historical research.  

On April 18 Mr. Reid entertains our younger students with his exciting 
program of storytelling.

Janie Lynn Panagopoulos, historian, author, lecturer has worked in the field 
of historical research, interpretation, and writing for thirty-two years. 
Originally working in advertising as a freelance writer for newspapers and 
magazines, Panagopoulos has had over 1,000 articles published (1974-1992).  
She also syndicated a history series that ran in fourteen Midwest newspapers 
(1985-1987). 

In the year 2000, Ms. Panagopoulos was awarded the prestigious “Michigan 
Authors Award”.  In 2001, she received the coveted “Read Michigan Award” 
granted by Michigan’s Governor Engler and Michigan’s Secretary of State 
Candace Miller, two of her books have also won the notable “Student Choice 
Award” and many of her books have been nominated for national, state, and 
regional awards and accolades.

Rob Reid is a senior lecturer for the Foundations of Education Department at 
the University of Wisconsin—Eau Claire. His specialties are children's 
literature, literature for adolescents, and storytelling. Among Rob’s eight 
books are his latest, Children’s Jukebox 2 and Something Musical Happened at 
the Library. He is a regular columnist for several magazines, including Book 
Links and LibrarySparks. Rob served on the 2006 Newbery Award Committee and 
was named as the Wisconsin Library Association’s Librarian of the Year. Rob 
travels the country visiting schools and libraries as a children’s humorist 
and speaks to library school professionals about children’s programming.

BARNES AND NOBLE FUNDRAISER

Thank you so much to the Mrs. Fellows and the band, Ms. Orner and the choir  
and Mrs. Pelzer for entertaining at the Barnes and Noble library 
fundraiser!  Thanks also to all the patrons who participated in the event. 
It's great to see the whole school involved!  
Your generosity resulted in $761 raised for the library which will be used 
to update our non-fiction collection.

LIBRARY BIRTHDAY CLUB FUNDRAISER

The Birthday Club is a direct donation to the library. Celebrate your 
child’s birthday with a gift all children at school can enjoy!  For a 
contribution of $15 or more, your child will be able to choose a brand new 
hardcover book dedicated in his/her name in the school library.  A permanent 
label will be affixed to the book to honor your child’s growth and 
contribution.  Half-birthdays will be celebrated for the summer-born.  

Simply send your child's name and birthdate to school with a check for $15 - 
attention library.  Age appropriate choices are provided for your child to 
choose from. It's never too late to join!
