Weekly Update

Snowy weather will be here soon and we need to be prepared for it. All
kinderkids must wear snowpants and boots when there is snow on the ground.
If you do not want your child to wear his/her snowpants to school, they can
be carried in a bag. Boots are very important because no one wants to sit on
the carpet when wet shoes have been walking on it. Remember to bring shoes
to wear during school!

November 22-23
Thanks to all for the great contributions to our Finger Food Feast. The
Pilgrims loved it! Check out the photo!

November 18-20
Our last vowel, Uu, was introduced this week. We are really working hard on
learning to differentiate the short vowel sounds. The letter/sound Ll was
also introduced.

In math we are writing the numbers 1 through 8. We learned about solid
shapes this week. See if your child can find things in your home with the
shapes of cylinder, sphere, pyramid, cone, cube, and rectangular prism.

We made it to our goal of reading 100 books! Scholastic will send 100 books
to a school in need. This is a good introduction to the term "service" for
the kinderkids.

Remember to bring finger food on Tuesday. We are dressing as Pilgrims for
our finger food feast. We have been busy making our hats!

Since next week is very short there will not be an update. Have a fun
Thanksgiving break with your children!

November 9--13
We have learned about the Pilgrims and their voyage to America. We've been
busy with turkey and Pilgrim art projects. The disguised turkeys are
terrific. Be sure to look at them when you come for conferences.

We began our third set of sounds with Gg and Oo. We are doing lots of
blending and the kinderkids are catching on well. Two blending lists came
home this week. Be sure to practice daily.

We have now learned to write the numbers 1 through 7 correctly. We are
practicing counting on from 5. See if your child understands how to count on
from a group of 5.

This class LOVES our writing center! We are running low on paper due to the
great use. If you or your workplace has any kind, color, or size of paper
that you no longer use, we can make good use of it.

Thanks to all who are selling magazines. Our class is really hoping for an
ice cream party, so keep those sales going! Everyone wants a weepul! In
order to get a weepul you have to have three online orders. Paper orders do
not count for the weepuls. The next turn-in day is Wednesday; keep selling!

I'm looking forward to meeting with you at conferences on Monday and
Tuesday. Your child should come with you, but I do not have them sit in on
the conference. They have their special activities to do while we talk.

November 2-6

We finished our second set of sounds. The sounds/letters covered in this
group were Cc, Kk, Ee, Hh, Rr, Mm, Dd. The children have brought home the
mini book with which to practice these sounds. The second blending list came
home this week. Remember to practice blending these words. It was a long
time between the first and second blending list because we were waiting to
have the sound of Dd. Hopefully it won't be quite as long between lists.

Ask your child to listen for a particular sound in a word and tell you if the
sound is at the beginning, inside, or the end of the word. This is great
practice for hearing sounds.

We learned to correctly write 7. We are working with 5-groups and counting
on from that group. This process will help the children with addition.

The class is very excited about the magazine sale. The kinderkids are hoping
that our class sells the most magazines in kindergarten, so that we get the
ice cream party! Remember that Wednesday is the first turn-in day.
The children can wear their lanyards to school and if they are eligible for
weepuls, we will put them on the lanyard.
