Snowy weather is here. All kinderkids must wear snowpants and boots when
there is snow on the ground. If you do not want your child to wear his/her
snowpants to school, they can be carried in a bag. Boots are very important
because no one wants to sit on the carpet when wet shoes have been walking on
it. Remember to bring shoes to wear during school!
December 14-18
REMEMBER THAT MONDAY IS PAJAMA DAY!! The children wear their pajamas to
school and leave them on all day. Please remember to pack shoes even if your
child brings slippers; we may need the shoes. Remember boots and snowpants
for recess.
The stories in The Adventures Of The Gingerbread Man were terrific. Thanks
for participating in this project. We had so much fun reading the adventures.
This week the long vowel sounds oa and ie were introduced. The children are
improving on recognizing that the two letters make one sound. Keep
practicing all sounds. Two blending lists came home this week; that means
the children have blended 90 words!
On Thursday our buddies put on the play of the Christmas story for us.
The January calendar for special days came home on Friday. Please note that
everyone can bring show & tell on the first day back at school.
Have a blessed Christmas. Enjoy all the fun activities with your children!
December 7-11
WE WON THE ICE CREAM PARTY!! Many thanks to all who sold magazines! The
kinderkids are so excited! We will have the party sometime in January.
The sounds of ai and j were introduced this week. AI fooled alot of children
who want to say the sound of each letter. We are working to "train our
brains" to look at both letters together and say the long a sound. We have
learned that when two vowels go walking, the first one does the talking and
it says its name. We will be learning more long vowel sounds in the next few
weeks. Two new blending lists came home this week. Keep blending those
words!
We made it to 10 in writing our numbers. We have also worked on patterns;
the class is getting very good at patterning!
On Friday we went to church where Fr. Dave talked about Christmas.
In the afternoon, we have been learning about reindeer. Ask your child
to tell you what s/he knows about reindeer. We also baked gingerbread
cupcakes which were a big hit!
November 30- December 4
We have many children without mittens and hats. The children go outside
daily and it is getting very cold out there. Please be sure your child has
mittens or gloves and a hat, plus the boots and snowpants.
We finished the third set of sounds which included Gg, Oo, Uu, Ll, Ff, Bb.
The practice book came home on Friday and a new blending list came home on
Thursday. Keep practicing the sounds and blending.
In math we have learned the correct way to write 1 through 9 now. We
continue to work on patterns. This math series spirals the curriculum, so
there is lots of reinforcement of each concept.
We are talking about Advent. I hope the children are using their advent
activity calendar and advent chain. We are working on learning the Our
Father. The children will be tested on it for the next report card.
We have begun to write our last names in "school writing."
This was gingerbread week in our classroom. We made gingerbread people and
heard many versions of the story of the gingerbread man. We heard about a
gingerbread baby and gingerbread cowboy and even a runaway pickle! We ate a
gingerbread cookie and graphed the part that we ate first.
We learned about how animals spend the winter. We learned which animals
hibernate, migrate, and adapt.
Many thanks to all who sold magazines. Next Friday we will find out if we
won the ice cream party.
