OCOTBER 30, 2009
7TH GRADE SCIENCE - Over the next 2 short weeks of school we will be learning
about parallel circuits, motors, and generators. No closed book tests will be
given until we get back to more consistant classes
8TH GRADE SCIENCE - Over the next 2 short weeks of school we will be doing
calculations using formulas for pressure in fluids. All graded work will be
done on an open book format.
OCTOBER 23, 2009
7TH GRADE SCIENCE - The test I thought we would have this week didn't happen.
We spent a day working with batteries, wires, switches, and light bulbs, and
the 7th graders were at Holy Hill another day. Now it looks as if the test on
Chapter one will be on Tuesday, October 27th. After that we will learn about
Static Electricity.
8TH GRADE SCIENCE - We are still doing calculations using formulas that are
connected with Newton's 3 Laws of Motion. When we complete those next week we
will move on to the study of pressure.
OCTOBER 16, 2009
7TH GRADE SCIENCE - We finished the book on Astronomy and are now studying
Electricity and Magnetism. Next week we will make an electromagnet and do
activities using static electricity. We'll probably be ready to test Chapter
1 information on Thursday, Oct.22nd.
8TH GRADE SCIENCE - We finished the book on genetics and are now into physics
and the formulas that go with it. Students will be graded according to the
various worksheets that we work on independently during class time.
Calculators may be used.
OCTOBER 2, 2009
Mrs. Pankow will be teaching for me on Friday, Oct.9 and the following
Monday, Oct.12 as I will be taking a long weekend to celebrate my son's
wedding.
I may not get around to update this site next week.
7TH GRADE SCIENCE - We will conclude our study of stars and galaxies and have
a test on Chapter 3 on Thursday, Oct.8.
8TH GRADE SCIENCE - We will finish our study of genetics next week and work
on an open book assignment for the grade. The last chapter in this book deals
heavily with evolution. We will read and talk about it in class, but there
will be no test on the information.

SEPTEMBER 25, 2009
7TH GRADE SCIENCE -We had a test today, Friday, about the planets - and the
Planet Cards were due. Now we will begin our study on the stars. Included in
this chapter will be a Computer Lab project where we create our own
constellation and write a story about it.
8TH GRADE SCIENCE - We are learning about genetics, probability, and Punnet
Squares. Did you enjoy doing the family genetic characteristic survey? The
test on this information will be open book and done during class time.

SEPTEMBER 18, 2009
7TH GRADE SCIENCE - We are working on the Planet Cards in both Science class
and Computer class. The students can use them when taking the test on Friday,
Sept.25th. The cards will also be collected and graded on that day.
8TH GRADE SCIENCE - We have a test on Chapter 2 on Monday, Sept.21. The
entire test is closed book. Students must know the equations for both
photosynthesis and respiration. They must also know the steps of mitosis in
order. They have good notes about what to study for the test. Then we move on
to heredity. Be prepared to have them question you about physical traits that
are similar within your family.
SEPTMEBER 11, 2009
7TH GRADE SCIENCE - We will begin the study of the planets in our solar
system. The students will be required to make a set of "Planet Cards".
Directions and materials will be handed out next week. They will be due the
following week.
8TH GRADE SCIENCE - The Chapter 1 test has been handed back to the students.
As usual, I offer a "Repair" assignment for students who want to do extra to
improve their grades. We will continue our study of cells by looking at the
processes that occur in cells.

September 3, 2009
7TH GRADE SCIENCE - We will continue our study of the moon and be ready for
our test on Chapter 1 on Friday, Sept.11.
8TH GRADE SCIENCE - We will review the information on the cell and be ready
for the test on Chapter 1 on Thursday, Sept. 10.

AUGUST 28, 2009
WELCOME BACK SCIENCE STUDENTS!!!!
7TH GRADE SCIENCE - Our first book on Astronomy will have us learning about
the moon, rockets, and satellites next week. No test is planned, but we will
be doing a fun activity that involves food.
8TH GRADE SCIENCE - We are learning about plant and animal cells and all the
organelles inside.
