Ms. Corn Grades 6-7

6th Grade History:

We will begin learning how to do graphic organizers the next couple of
chapters. Graphic organizers are just a different type note taking strategy
some examples are time lines, outlines, Venn diagrams, and main idea and
detail story webs. I find that it helps to start with graphic organizers in
my 6th grade class so that they do not become too overwhelmed with notes.
They will still have homework in their workbooks.

It looks as if the test on chapter 3 will be either October 2nd or the 4th.

7th Grade:

History:
We will begin notes this week in class. Students will have worksheets and
quizes that they will be allowed to use on their test. They will have a test
in about 2 weeks on Chapter 2. This will be an open note test. Their test
for Chapter 2 will be on Thursday September 27th. This will be graded and
counted on their mid quarter grades.

They will also have their questions for their power point project due that
day. I would recommend that if they have not gone to the library as of yet
they do so before this due date. If they develop their questions based on
the information provided in the books, it will make their research go much
smoother for the next due date.

Spelling and Geography:
Spelling pretest will be on Tuesday and the contract and test will be due on
Thursday.
We will continue to take state and capitals quizzes every class. They are
responsible for knowing the following states and the capitals: California,
Oregon, Washingston, Idaho, Utah, Montana, Nevada, and Colorado.

Have a great week!
Yours in Christ,
Ms. Corn

7th and 8th Grade
Power Point Presentation Project
First Quarter

Objective: Students will work individually in order to research a
United States President and create a Power Point presentation to display
their knowledge.

Due Dates:	1. Select a president
	September 17th
	2. Develop Questions
	    (4-5 questions) September
27th
	3. Research Questions
(research on note cards, include a bibliography)	October 26th
	4. Make slides November
29th
	5. Proofread and finalize Presentation December 7th
	6. Present Slide Show to Class December 10-21st

Expectations:
Select President – Pick a United States President to research. 7th Grade
will chose from George Washington through Abraham Lincoln and 8th grade will
chose from Andrew Johnson through George W. Bush.
Research Questions – Each student should decide on 4 – 5 questions to
research about their president and his presidency. These questions will
focus the research and should be the topic of the slides in the
presentation. A typed list of questions will need to be turned in on the due
date.
Research the Task – Each student will do their own research and will need at
least two text sources and one internet source. Every student will need a
typed bibliography. I would suggest typing it in Word as you do your
research. Using note cards, you will need to turn in your information for
the questions you are to research. I would expect 1 - 2 note cards per
question. Each note card should have the question at the top, the
information in bulleted form, and the source for the notes. When you turn in
your materials for this due date, I will expect the note cards and a typed
bibliography.
Make 7-10 Slides – Each student will be required to make and custom animate
7-10 slides for the presentation. This does not include the title slide or
the bibliography slide. Each student will need to include information, at
least one map, make a chart using Power Point, and at least one picture.
Slides will be completed at school in the computer lab.
Proofread and Finalize Presentation – Students will proofread and finalize
their presentation. Each student will need to make a title slide and a
bibliography slide. The bibliography slide must be in the correct format.
Each student will need to decide on slide transitions. This will also be
completed in the computer lab.
Presentation – Each student will present their presentation during the last
two weeks before Christmas Break. Students will be expected to fill in any
important information or expand on the information in their slides during
their presentation.
