This is an on line radio play for students of German. It deals with a member
of a rap group that lands on top of a young lady after having parachuted from
an airplane. He develops amnesia and the story takes off from there. Each
episode is on real audio and students can read a manuscript as they listen.

EXPLORE MUSIC MADE IN GERMANY

Popular music from Germany? From HipHop to pop? And all this in German? Is
that possible? A few questions with just one answer: It is possible and how!

The German rock and pop scene has evolved dramatically over the past ten
years. Much of what used to be unthinkable has now become normal. Now you can
make music that has something to do with the lives of young people and the
young fans understand this music and feel it. Germany has thus rapidly caught
up with an artistic development that has been the cultural status quo in the
rest of Europe.

All this was made possible because the music with its national autonomy
encountered for the first time a young generation that knew what to do with
this national autonomy. These young people, quite matter-of-factly, followed
the motto I feel it, I get it, I like it and started to deal with German pop
music in an entirely unselfconscious manner. The first musical trend has by
now become a very diverse national pop music culture that is worth discovering
over and over again in all its facets.

Its the mission of the German Music Council to represent the interests of the
music business in Germany and above all to further the intercultural exchange
through music. As a representative of the German Music Council I therefore
wholeheartedly welcome the activities of the Goethe-Institut and I am happy
that Step into German focuses this year on the German music scene. I am
convinced that everybody can find something he or she likes in the wide
variety German music has to offer.

Being engaged in German music and in the German language not only makes sense
because the knowledge that you acquire will later on open many doors. It also
makes sense because its just plain fun! Having fun and being curious about
new things is, after all, what really matters when it comes to learning.
