The Fourth Annual National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy will be May 4, 2005

What:

On the National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy, teens are asked to go online and take a fun, engaging quiz that presents them with several real life scenarios involving sex and asks them to choose a course of action. The 2004 National Day took place on May 5, 2004.

The first annual National Day in 2002 had 75,000 Quiz takers. In 2003, nearly 300,000 people from all fifty states took the National Day Quiz. In 2004, 560,000 individuals logged on and took the Quiz.

A follow-up survey of a subset of the quiz takers in 2004 revealed positive reaction to the quiz.

“I thought the quiz was a good thing. It helped me realize how little I knew about sex and stuff. I thought I knew a whole lot more than I actually do.”
- Girl, 13

Why:

Despite recent declines, about 35 percent of girls in the U.S. get pregnant at least once by age 20. Many teens say they are concerned about pregnancy, but still think "it can't happen to me." But it does - to 850,000 girls every year. And the number one reason teen guys and girls give for not using protection is that they weren't planning to have sex and that it "just happened."Our online quiz is designed to help teens come up with their own plans for avoiding pregnancy.

Who:

The quiz is appropriate for teens ages 13 and up.
