Hello All!
The prairie is finally being planted. We went out and cleared out trash, old
leaves, dead plants and dried grass. While one team worked on that, the
others were digging up sod and hauling it in big buckets to the big old
pile. The weather was perfect, and although hard physical labor was a
challenge to a few, we managed to get the work done. MAC2 and 3 and Mrs.
Barth's class went out too. Watch how the strip of land near the back
parking lot changes as we work together to bring back a bit of Wisconsin
history. Thanks to those parents and grandparent who volunteered to help and
stayed long past the time we did.
We will be starting our measurement and graphing unit in math. The pre-test
has been given and groups formed. Now is the time to work with kids so they
are proficient at measuring to the nearest half inch, and comfortable
working with the metric linear meauring system as well. Measuring in
centimeters will be necessary in MAC2. Simple liquid measures can be
practiced at home too, while cooking or just playing with water or sand. The
internet is full of ideas for family fun, too.
Thanks for getting back the "Notable Americans" lists. Inclusion of these
people will make for a rich social studies finale. Having your families work
on it together really seemed to excite the kids even more.
We're gearing up for a performance on May 20. In conjunction with our
science unit on plants, Ms. Church found lots of cool songs about the
prairie. We're going to work with MAC2 to add just a touch more to her part
of the performance. Mrs. Tooley is going to finish off the art series in May
with a Frank Lloyd Wright program. He was inspired by the prairie, and the
love of it was reflected in much of his work.
In science, children have been observing the properties of liquids. It's
amazing how interested they are in just watching various kinds of liquid
swirl around in plastic bottles.
We will do a reviews and assessments in all of our subjects before the end
of the school year. Continue to work with your child on those basics of
addition, subtraction, telling time, counting money...
If you are planning on moving over the summer, please let the office know.
Classes are being set for fall and it's easier if we have all the
information at hand. We sure hope nobody moves, but I guess it's out of our
control.
We are looking for a place for Shadow to stay over summer vacation. His
hutch can be transported to a screened porch or room in a welcoming house.
We'll supply $ for food and litter, but the love will come from you. Let us
know if you are interested.
