Welcome to MAC1!
Happy New Year! It’s hard to believe it is 2010 already! I hope everyone had
a safe and fun holiday break! We can’t wait to see everyone on Monday and to
hear everything they have been doing. I am sure it will be a lively morning
circle time! We will also be having our annual Welcome Back Breakfast right
after attendance and morning circle. It is a great way to reunite and for the
kids to chat about all they have done over the break. Thanks in advance to
everyone who is helping with the breakfast!
We have been very busy at school. Before the break we took some time to work
on plays for each other. The students were put into small groups and were
able to practice their parts and make props, then on the last day before
break we put on the plays for each other! They did a terrific job and we had
a lot of fun!! We then had some choice time and ended with some hot chocolate
and cookies from our wonderful Mrs. Borden!
In math we are continuing to work on our stores and hoping to open our own
mall soon. The students had to come up with their own concept, think about
what they wanted to sell and design their store. The next steps will be to
actually create the stores and then we will have our own grand opening. It
should be very fun.
In Science we will be starting our unit on rocks and soil. This is a very fun
unit, rocks are fascinating! We might even try growing our own crystals and
geode!
In social studies we have started learning about the different continents and
the students have done a great job identifying them. Our next steps will be
to go into more depth about the countries around the world and what it is
like to live in different places. We have been fortunate enough to have some
of our parents come in already and teach about some of the different
countries that they have lived in or been to. Massara’s Mom lived in Mali,
Africa and brought in toys, musical instruments and taught us a lot about
what it was like there. Alexander’s Mom grew up in Greece and taught us all
about her family, with pictures and everything! We even had a visit from
Lucas O.‘s Uncle who lives in Japan! We are also looking forward to having
Douglas’ Dad in to talk about Jamaica and Kennedy’s Dad in to talk about the
Dominican Republic. We are very grateful to everyone for taking the time to
teach us about all of these different places. The experiences have been so
valuable and the kids love them! Thank you!! We will also be doing a great
family project based on countries around the world and hope everyone will get
involved. I am very excited about this project, so keep your eyes open for
more details soon! And again, thank you to everyone for all your help! If you
would like to come in to talk about somewhere you have been or lived, please
contact us and we can set something up!
Please remember to check all of the pages for new pictures!!
