Cool Things About MAC1...
In MAC1, there are many different ways your child can present things that
he/she is passionate about to the class:
1. Featured Reader:
Your child can pick a book to bring in to the class and read out aloud to
everyone.
2. Featured Performer:
Your child can play an instrument, sing a song, do magic tricks, etc. for the
class.
3. Featured Sharer:
Your child is welcome to bring in something to share with the class. Perhaps
it's part of a treasured collection, a holiday souvenier or a postcard.
In each of the above three cases, once the child is done reading, performing
or sharing, he or she picks the next child to do so (out of whoever raises
their hand).
From one of our room parents, Stephanie Snyder who also works at the Lake
Bluff Library:
I will be doing a mini-unit on Day Of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos). I will
be able to use the library on Mondays while I am working. It's going to be 5
weeks, starting October 5 and ending November 2 with a small celebration in
the library which will include traditional Mexican Dia del los Muertos treats
(pan de Muertos which is an egg batter bread, sugar skulls Calaveras de
Azucar and hot chocolate- chocolate caliente). If there are food allergy
issues or personal concerns please contact me and I would be happy to discuss
any concerns. I want to stress that even though the origins of this cultural
celebration are religious, the emphasis will be on the difference between our
approach to Halloween and the Hispanic approach to Day of the Dead. It is a
festive and happy holiday. There is nothing ghoulish, bloody, macarbe or
frightening. The library visits will include fiction and non-fiction stories
on the topic, items used in making "ofrendas" (tables representing the
departed) cut paper tissue banners (papel picado), decorating skull masks
(which will be displayed in the Pick n Save windows) paper flower making.
*Welcome new and returning parents! This is a page where parents can post
whatever they want to share with other MAC1 parents (recipes, children's
entertainment ideas, tricks to help kids with their homework, etc. etc.).
Please email the teachers or Alex's mom anything you want to share and we'll
post it on here
for you.*
