You are expected to follow the guidelines outlined in class as well as 
those found in the Student Handbook.

You should remember to bring everything you will need with you to 
class (this includes the covered textbook, notebook, writing supplies, any 
homework assignments, an independent reading book, etc.).

Homework, written assignments, quizzes, individual & group activities, and 
tests can be expected. Advanced notice will be given for tests and most 
quizzes. There will be some quizzes given without prior notice (primarily 
notebook quizzes).

After an absence, you should get notes and any missed homework from a 
classmate.  You are responsible for all notes, assignments, etc. that you 
missed while absent.  Check my website while at home and ask me when
you return.  This is your responsibility.

Homework contributes toward building responsibility, self-discipline and 
lifelong learning habits; for these reasons, I believe that homework is an 
essential part of every child’s learning experience. Homework is usually not 
new learning and should enhance what the student has been working on in 
class.  However, homework incorporates a wider definition than most students 
realize. It includes the completion of work not finished in class, completion 
of daily assignments, review of concepts taught that day, reading, work on 
long-term projects, studying for upcoming quizzes/tests, and preparing for 
the next day. Most students with failing grades are not adequately completing 
homework assignments and studying.  Therefore, I recommend that all students 
schedule a regular routine for completing homework.

You are allowed to turn in one assignment late per grading period, no 
questions asked (due the following day).  After that, homework will be 
accepted late with a maximum grade of 80%.  No credit will be given for 
work more than two weeks late.  Exceptions are made for excused absences 
(students are generally given one day to make up an assignment per each day 
absent). [Teacher Discretion]

You will be required to type many assignments in 8th grade.  If your home 
printer breaks or runs out of ink, you should save it to a jump drive and 
come in prior to class to print it out on a school computer (this should be 
done in the morning before school begins).  Another option is to email it to 
me and I will print it for you at school.  Again, this must be done prior to 
the class period it is due.  The assignment will be counted late if you come 
to class with only a jump drive in hand or directions for me about an email I 
can expect at any moment from home.

You will also be required to complete assignments on a computer using the 
internet in both grades seven and eight.  If you are unable to complete such 
an assignment due to computer or internet issues at home, you will be 
expected to come in prior to class to finish the assignment at school (before 
school begins).  The assignment will be considered late if it is not done by 
the assigned date or time.
