Letter for week of 11/16
Dear Parent(s),
Last week we had the wonderful opportunity to listen to Mr. Joe Turicik,
a WWII Veteran. His story was so interesting, and it certainly brought back
memories of my own grandfather's WWII stories. On Friday, Sister Joan Marie
shared more experiences with us from her time in Africa. Her stories were
eye opening and heartwarming. Lastly, we also met with our 5K Special
Friends. It is always fun to get together with our younger friends.
This week we will continue to learn more about the moon and the sun.
Last week we made "moon craters" in sand. The children had to drop a marble
from different heights and then keep track of the width of the crater each
time. This week we will do "Lunar Olympics" by jumping, and then using our
math skills, we will figure out how much higher we would have jumped on the
moon.
Please remember that all of you are invited to an hour of math learning
and games. I will have the children use the SMART Board to demonstrate what
a neat learning tool the SMART Board is. Our evening of math will start at
5:45 and will end at 6:45. Please park in the playground parking lot and
come in the playground door.
On Early Release Day Wednesday, we will have a neat morning of Mickey
Mouse pancakes and an integration of facts and fun in all of the subject
areas. Thank you for the many items that you will be sending in. The
children are invited to wear Disney themed clothing. Zippity Do-Dah,
Zippity Day, My Oh My We'll Have a Wonderful Day!
The next Mass that my class will be taking part in will be on December
1st. I will be sending parts home soon. Some of the children may have more
than one part. Thank you in advance for practicing parts with your child
beforehand.
The contest for "What does your Catholic Education Mean to You?" was
done by my class already. Not all teachers are doing it, that is why
information was sent to all of you parents. Our essays are already
sent. :) I will post them around for Catholic School's Week as I made
copies of all of them. They were written nicely.
The next couple of weeks will go by quickly. Many activities and events
will be taking place. Please watch the calendar closely. I look forward to
seeing many of my students at the Lock-In that is being held on December
4th. Please refer to the list that was sent home in regards to donations
for the needy family that we are helping St. Vincent de Paul with.
Book-It is due next week. Please have your child create a diorama
based on a book read in November. There will not be a project due in
December due to the hustle and the bustle that the season brings.
Right after Thanksgiving, we will be making many Christmas/Winter
themed art projects. It is such a great time of the year to teach. We will
attend Advent Prayer Services, sing Christmas songs, and of course recall
the real reason of the season.
During the second week of December, the school will have their SPA
visit. I have been working on a binder for one of the standards that needs
to be met. It has kept me busy for many hours and days. Soon, I will be
straightening up my classroom, displaying more neat assignments in the
hallway, and most likely will be interviewed by one of the people on the SPA
Team. Please pray for our school as we go through the accredidation process.
Next week, we will do many Thanksgiving themed lessons. We will get
together with our 5K friends and will share an activity with them. It will
be a short but busy week. Have a nice week!
Mrs. Nelson
