Week of November 23rd....
The "Frosty" ornaments for the Madison tree were beautiful. Suzette has sent
the ornaments in to the governor accompanied by a letter signed by 4/5 and
4th grades sharing some knowledge about what we have learned so far in our
Wisconsin unit and an invitation to visit our school. Thanks to all the
parents who helped with this project.
Our new discipline policy is working well thanks to your support and follow
through. Keep up the good work everyone.
In Reading, we are studying about summarizing through story telling. We will
be doing a more in-depth study on Fairy tales and fables. Children will need
to choose one book of each and do a comparison/contrast. They will
ultimately get to pick one of the stories and after learning the art of story
telling, perform a story for the class.
In Language Arts, we will continue to work on the writing process as we
practice sentence writing, fluency, proper spelling patterns, and format. We
will be continue to use Patricia Polacco's stories just for this week.
Here is a reading tip for parents: To improve your child's reading, try
using the "Daily Five" which includes reading to yourself, reading aloud,
being read to, writing, and working with words every day. Please let me know
if you need help with meeting your child's needs with these 5 things.
Dates and things that are coming up.....
There will be a science test on December 1st with a study guide coming out on
November 24th.
Mr Erdmier will be stopping into our classroom this week Tuesday and
Wednesday to teach us about developing our character traits. He will be
using a pie chart similiar to our 100% Smart Chart. Children will be able to
take a survey on how they perceive themselves and then will be paired up with
a classmate who will also fill out the same survey of how they are perceived
by others. This should be an interesting self esteem booster.
We will be going to 10:00 A.M. All School Mass on Wednesday, November 25th to
give thanks and we invite you to attend.
On Monday, November 30th we will be doing a service project with Project
Angel Hugs and will be walking to the office after lunch with Mrs. Raflik's
class. This project makes us aware of children with cancer and we will then
make gift packages for these children for Christmas.
We are also participating in the Knights of Columbus poster contest this
week. As you can see, we will have a busy next few weeks.
I wish all of my families a safe and healthy Thanksgiving. We have much to
be thankful for! God gives us so very much!
God Bless You!
Sincerely,
Julie Murphy
