Hello!! Welcome to the wonderful world of Science!!!

Please check here for updated information about the topics we are studying,
upcoming tests, and upcoming activities. THANKS!!

**Looking ahead to the week of Jan. 4-8, 2010**

*I hope your family had a wonderful, relaxing Christmas vacation!!*
                             Happy New Year!!

Science 5-- My Junior Scientists will be finishing up learning about comets,
meteors, and meteorites on Monday. Then we will start our
chapter on the Solar System. We will learn about the
astronomers Ptolemy and Copernicus, learn about the Big Bang
Theory, do an experiment about the distances between the
planets, and then learn some amazing, specific facts about
the planets. The studentgs will do a writing activity with the
               facts they learn.

Science 4-- My 4th Grade Einsteins will get their tests back on Monday and
we'll go over them in class. Next we will work with buoyancy
and do some experiments with common everyday objects to see if
they float or sink. Then we will switch gears and learn about
the Water Cycle (how evaporation and condensation work in the
cycle) and end our week getting an introduction to magnets.

Science 4/5-- These Junior Scientists will begin the week doing an
interesting "Is it a solid or liquid?" activity on Monday.
Next we will begin studying about the Water Cycle (how
evaporation and condensation work in the cycle). Then we
                 will begin working with magnets.

Fascinating Science Facts:

**The largest meteorite crater in the world is in Winslow, Arizona. It is
4,150 feet across and 150 feet deep.**

**The largest telescope in the world is currently being constructed in
northern Chile. The telescope will use four 26ft. 8in. mirrors which
will gather as much light as a single 52ft. 6in. mirror.**
