Well, we have one Sacrament behind us and are starting to prepare for our
next one. I am a little concerned about the chaos that took place during
Reconciliation. The children (especially the boys), seemed to run out of
the chapel more than necessary. I talked to the children to let them know I
was dissapointed with their behavior. They are much more mature than this
behavior reflected. The children are really excited about First Eucharist.
This is probably one of the most important days in their lives. I stress
that you please make every effort to attend Mass on Saturday or Sunday.
This shows your child that you are really interested in what is important to
them.
Please help your child review their basic addition facts by studying each
night for fifteen minutes. I am SO impressed with how some of the children
remember their facts from First Grade. For those who are a little weak, it
is especially important to study each night. I am SO IMPRESSED with their
recollection of their basic facts. I already have a few students practicing
their Multiplication facts. In my 23 years of teaching, I have Never had a
second grader get to multiplication. That shows me the dedication you are
taking with your child to help them learn.
It is also important for them to read each night. Be sure they are reading
at their level to increase their reading ability. Some children tend to
check out books that are too easy or way too hard for them. I look at the
books they check out to see that they have appropriate reading material. We
have recently started a "Guided Reading" program one day a week. The
children are grouped by their ability and work with either Mrs. Renzelmann,
Mrs, Schwibinger, or myself. I really enjoy working with some of the
students from the other second grade. It also gives them the opportunity to
mix with their peers.
I have explained to the children that the grades they receive on their
Report Cards, are not the grades that I gave them, but that they have EARNED
these grades.
I would like to thank each one of you parents for sharing your child with
me this year. Second grade is such an important year. Not only are we
improving our reading and math skills, but we will be receiving our First
Reconciliation as well as our First Communion.
Please check your Wednesday homework folder and your Friday folders for
correspondence.
PLEASE REMEMBER: LUNCH TICKETS SHOULD ONLY BE PURCHASED ON MONDAYS UNLESS
YOUR CHILD IS ILL. BECAUSE OF A NEW LUNCH POLICY, ONE SIBLING MAY NOT BORROW
ANOTHER PUNCH FROM ANOTHER SIBLING. THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION IN THIS
MATTER!!
PLEASE, PLEASE if your child is not feeling well keep them home from school.
It is not fair to the other children or myself to be infected when this could
be prevented. Please remind them to wash their hands often. That is our
best protection against these nasty bugs!
With Winter upon us, it is probably a wise decision to throw an extra pair
of mittens and socks in your child's backpack. Sometimes they come in
awfully soaked.
