Sixth Grade Families:
It has been awhile since this page was updated.....Many things have happened in the last month; the most memorable was the trip to Chicago. We could not have had a better three days. The chaperones were a tremendous asset to the memories had by all. THANKS!! The students wrote about their favorite part of the trip and although the visit to Willis Tower seems to have won in number, all the other favorites were just as impressive to all of us. Dave, our bus driver, also made the trip first rate because he is flexible with our schedule. A lot of hard work went in to making Chicago a significant part of the school year: thanks to parents, students and chaperones. The final audit will probably be completed this week....although we stayed within budget, there were several unforeseen charges, so refunds will be smaller than expected.
If you have photos to share, or would like to have them considered for the end-of-year slide show, please email them to me as soon as possible.
Thanks to Olsons and Brunners for volunteering for the Catholicism project on May 1, and Busch's and Fenton's for May 22. The sixth grade class and parents undertook this venture as a fundraiser, albeit small, but more importantly as a service project for the parish. There were many parents who would not have attended the films and discussions had babysitting not been so accesible for them. Thank you for making this possible for so many.
May Crowning is this Friday, May 11, at the school mass. Tanya Brunner's name was drawn from nine others in the class to crown Mary. A second grader will carry the crown. Students should dress in their best; they can change after Mass. Please join us in this blessed paraliturgy honoring Mary.
We have a walking field trip to the Wastewater Treatment Plant on Monday, May 14 from 9:40-11:30am. I do need a chaperone to walk with us. Please let me know...We also have an all-day field trip on Tuesday, May 22 in town. We are outside for the day. I need an adult to drive and stay the day as an emergency backup; the students take a bus.
Baccalaureate Mass and ceremony/reception invitations have been sent home. I will need an approximate number of guests who will join us by May 17. Either write a note, put the number in your child's assignment book, or email it to me. This helps the 5th grade hosts prepare.
Several students (10) have expressed the desire to come back to school after their baccalaureate ceremony on May 24. If your child wants to do this, let me know the day and time they would be here. There are several teachers who would be able to use their help, and we want to schedule them accordingly. Just hanging out at St. Joe's is not a good idea as the other students are still in class or on field trips. The sixth grade class can attend the day at Wakanda Water Park (assuming the school meets their WFV goal) but should get dropped off and picked up at the water park. Plans have not been made to transport them by bus with the rest of the student body.
This is a very busy time of the school year! The sixth grade class has several guests making presentations in the next week and Stout students working on a science presentation, also. We have practices, share days, field trips, and even some schoolwork to wind up. We will all be ready for summer vacation soon!
Thanks....
Mrs. K
